American Fleet Service, Inc. is seeking an experienced and motivated Shop Foreman / Lead Diesel Technician to join our team in Portsmouth, Virginia. This role is ideal for a skilled technician with leadership experience who can perform advanced diagnostics and repairs while supporting and mentoring other technicians in a fast-paced shop environment.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and committed to delivering high-quality service while helping drive shop productivity and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Duties:
Perform light- to heavy-duty electrical diagnostics and repairs.

• Diagnose and repair diesel and gas engines and related systems.
• Perform suspension, steering, and brake diagnostics and repairs.
• Diagnose and repair aftertreatment/emissions systems.
• Perform A/C diagnostics and repairs.
• Complete Federal DOT inspections.
• Perform state inspections in accordance with Virginia regulations.
• Complete light welding repairs as needed.
• Identify additional repair and maintenance opportunities for customers.
• Only expected 40 to 50% time billable hours.

Leadership & Shop Support:

• Support and assist technicians as needed throughout the workday.
• Ensure technician time is properly documented and accounted for.
• Review parts and labor requests for accuracy.
• Mentor and train less-experienced technicians.
• Help maintain shop efficiency, quality standards, and safety procedures.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Valid driver’s license.
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
• Good computer and diagnostic software skills.
• Must provide personal hand tools.

(Large shop equipment and diagnostic tools are provided).

Preferred:

• Virginia State Inspection License.
• CDL (Commercial Driver’s License).
• ASE Certifications.
• EPA 609 A/C Certification.
• Technical or Trade School Training.
