Summary
Venetian Aquatic Club Volunteers are assigned to the Venetian Pool to assist with a variety of functions as it pertains to the Learn To Swim Program of children ages 5-18 and adults ages 18 and over. This Volunteer position is under the supervision of the Venetian Pool Aquatics Supervisor, Assistant Aquatics Supervisor(s) and the Venetian Aquatic Club Board. Volunteers in this position are responsible for teaching and assisting adults and children at the Venetian Pool with swim lessons and water safety skills. Volunteers are to respond to the needs, requests and/or inquiries of patrons participating in the swim program and be able to provide solutions to their concerns.
Volunteers must abide by City of Coral Gables Volunteer Rules and Regulations and the Venetian Aquatic Club Bylaws in order to remain an active volunteer. Volunteers must teach swimming lessons in accordance to the Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program. Volunteers must stay active as a volunteer with the Venetian Aquatic Club and the City of Coral Gables in order to preserve their volunteer benefits with the City of Coral Gables Community Recreation Department. Volunteer benefits will only be awarded after completing the required volunteer hours. Volunteers shall not have a lapse of service for more than 90 days or they must undergo the hiring process again. All volunteers must reapply and go through the hiring process after five years of continuous service. All volunteers must undergo an annual Community Recreation Orientation for Volunteers & Coaches. Job Duties and Responsibilities
Develop an effective curriculum with daily lesson plans for respective subject area for five two-week youth programs and several year-round adult programs. Provide course handouts and report cards to participants/parents as needed. Ensure quality of service throughout program. Arrive well prepared and on time.
Assist with taking and recording attendance of program participants in accordance with Department procedures.
Observe, enforce and comply with all policies, rules, regulations, laws and ordinances of the facility, the Department and the City of Coral Gables. Ensure that all safety precautions are observed and followed. No one is to enter the pool without a lifeguard on duty.
Maintain order of program participants. Recommend corrective action to Facility Supervisors in accordance with Departmental disciplinary policies for those in violation of program and/or facility policies, rules, regulation, laws and ordinances. Volunteers are never to discipline a participant.
Qualifications
Minimum of 15 years of age.
Must be approved by the Venetian Aquatic Club and City of Coral Gables.
Volunteers must pay their dues to be active with the Venetian Aquatic Club. Please refer to the Venetian Aquatic Club Bylaws for more information on requirements and membership dues.
Water Safety Instructor Aid Certification Required. New members must take the course for two consecutive years. Members who have taken the course for two years shall take a review course every second year.
Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred.
First Aid & CPR Certification, preferred.
