Job Title VFX Artist 2 – Apex Legends Studio & Work Model Respawn Entertainment • Hybrid work model (office/hybrid) Location Vancouver, BC (Other locations: Los Angeles, CA; Madison, WI) Job Summary Respawn Entertainment is seeking a VFX Artist to support the Apex Legends content creation team. In this role, you will create and implement real‑time visual effects that bring Legends, weapons, and seasonal moments to life while collaborating closely with Art, Design, Animation, and Engineering. Responsibilities Create and implement real-time VFX for legend abilities, weapons, seasonal content, environmental moments, and gameplay events across the Apex Legends live service. Elevate seasonal content drops with effects that bring energy, impact, and visual identity to new characters, weapon releases, and limited‑time events. Coordinate with cross‑disciplinary teams to ensure VFX match the quality bar and vision for each content area. Solve VFX‑related problems, fix bugs, and address performance and memory budget issues throughout the content pipeline. Help improve VFX pipelines, tools, and creation techniques to support the quality and pace demands of a live‑service game. Qualifications 2+ years of professional experience as a real‑time VFX artist in the games industry. Demonstrable ability to create high‑quality real‑time VFX for games, with a portfolio of shipped in‑game work. Proficiency with DCC tools such as Maya, Houdini, Photoshop, or Substance Designer, and experience implementing work within a game engine or proprietary toolset. Strong cross‑discipline communication and collaboration skills with a proactive approach to feedback and problem‑solving. Passion for making and playing games. Experience with first‑person or competitive multiplayer games in a live‑service context is a plus. Shipped AAA game credit is a plus. Compensation and Benefits The following pay ranges are indicative: British Columbia (Vancouver): $92,900 – $129,200 CAD per year California (Los Angeles): $104,400 – $157,400 USD per year Benefits include paid time off, sick time, company holidays, health, dental, and vision insurance, life and disability insurance, 401(k), and potential bonus and equity opportunities.
