Duties

Set up work and operate state-of-the-art machining centers.

Manufacture parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different kinds of metals such as amor plate and metal alloys and other materials.

Operate Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and Numerical Control (NC) machines to perform standard machining operations.

Plan and layout work from blueprints, sketches, work orders, and/or model of parts to be made.

Use shop mathematics and standard handbook formulas in making computations to establish dimensions not provided in oral or written instructions and specifications.

Calculate mathematical computations and apply handbook formulas for needed dimensions.

Mark surfaces and angles to be machined to facilitate accurate job setups.

Decipher the machinability of numerous metals and the proper tools required to produce the desired cuts and surfaces.

Apply knowledge of various metals and other materials to produce desired cuts and finishes on various metals.
