QUALIFIED PART-TIME SENIOR VAN DRIVER

Hiring Range: $19.42 – $23.28 per hour Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt

GENERAL PURPOSE

Drives a city van on pre-scheduled routes to provide elderly with transportation assistance and assists Public Works with maintenance tasks as requested.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Meet performance standards established with the employee's manager;
• Job attendance is required, except for authorized leave;
• Drive van to pick up senior citizens each morning Monday through Friday and transport them to the Midvale Senior Center. Then return senior citizens to their homes in the afternoon;
• Assist the senior citizens to access and depart from the vehicle as well as assist them as needed while on the bus in a kind and courteous manner;
• Inspect van daily as instructed by the fleet manager. Keep the van neat and clean;
• Complete paperwork as assigned on a daily basis regarding van passengers and van daily trips and submits the same to supervisor;
• Observe all safety rules and traffic laws;
• Drive senior citizens to extracurricular scheduled activities, i.e., grocery shopping, Midvale parade, art classes, social events, pick up prescriptions, etc.;
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATONS

1. Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent; plus, one (1) year experience driving a multi-passenger vehicle or van preferred.

1. Special Qualifications:

• Must possess and maintain a valid Utah Driver's License with periodic verification by the city.
• This position will be subject to the random drug testing policy and periodic driver's license verifications.

1. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Working knowledge of the operation of a multi-passenger van;
• Ability to follow simple instructions;
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
• Ability to manually assist seniors and their supplies to enter and exit the van;
• Ability to work effectively with supervisors, senior citizens, and the public.

1. Working Conditions: Employee(s) in this position perform in generally comfortable conditions involving intermittent sitting, standing, walking, stooping, and reaching. Tasks require physical activities working out of doors with exposure to various types of weather conditions, including potential weather extremes. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must consistently bend, lift and/or move up to 90 pounds. Talking, hearing, and seeing required in the normal course of performing the job. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required to perform essential functions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, and creative problem solving. Periodic local travel required in course of performing portions of job functions. Considerable exposure to stress as a result of human behavior, frequent deadlines, and the general demands of the position.
