School Psychologist Intern
Position Title: School Psychologist Intern Classification: N/A Reports To: Director of Special Education
POSITION GOAL: Through a paid and benefits eligible internship with Reading School District, the School Psychologist Intern will gain experience in providing psychoeducational services to enable students to derive the fullest possible educational experience from school. Training experiences will meet the minimum 1,200 hour requirements set forth by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and NASP for certification at the state and national levels, along with meeting the intern's training program requirements. Additional hours are possible to meet required training hours for predoctoral interns.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Other duties may be assigned. The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties:
- Actively participate in weekly supervision sessions
- Conduct comprehensive initial evaluations to aid in the identification and development of educational services for students within a timely manner.
- Conduct reevaluations of students as per standards and regulations
- Select and administer a range of psycho-educational assessments, curriculum-based assessments, and functional behavioral assessments for the educational planning and development of appropriate individualized educational programs
- Present and discuss evaluation findings with parents and team members.
- Observes classes when necessary as part of an assessment
- Provide instructional and behavioral consultation services
- Conduct counseling and behavior management sessions in specific situations on individual and/or group processes.
- Maintains case records on all referred students
- Interprets the school psychological services to teachers and parents
- Cooperates with personnel of community health and social welfare agencies when in possession of proper releases
- Recommend and utilize community resources in the facilitation of services for students
- Attends meetings in conjunction with assignments
- Keeps abreast of new developments in the field
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: Enrolled in an accredited school psychology graduate program and working towards Pennsylvania state certification and/or Nationally Certified School Psychologist credential. Experience working with students with disabilities and youth considered at-risk. Ability to travel within the workday to a variety of school settings and environments. Strong verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Ability to organize and prioritize work and to meet deadlines. Ability to multi-task and take initiative. Ability to take direction from supervisors and accept feedback.
TERM OF INTERNSHIP: The internship is full-time and will coincide with the applicable District academic calendar. Interns will follow the work schedule of professional employees of the District according to the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement between the District and the Reading Education Association, unless otherwise agreed to in writing by the intern and the District.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: The District will pay a stipend of $15,000 for the 1,200 hour minimum internship over one academic year according to the District's School Calendar. Payments will be made bi-weekly during the term of the internship subject to verification of hours by designated personnel and according to the District's regular payroll processes and subject to standard taxes and deductions. Interns will be eligible to receive health and welfare benefits pursuant to the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement between the District and the Reading Education Association through the last day of the last month of an intern's participation in the internship subject to their payment of the applicable premium share towards the cost of healthcare coverage.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Completion of all pre-internship coursework as per graduate training program requirements
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid PA Driver's License preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common professional and technical journals, governmental regulations and legal documents Ability to respond to common inquiries from staff and regulatory agencies Ability to write reports, and correspondence Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administration, students, and parents. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions for practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to develop and maintain required records and reports Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, parents and the community Ability to work as a team member Ability to maintain personal self-control in stressful situations Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold applicable standard of care.
