# Water Technician 1-Northeast Water PlantApply: 11000 E. 8 Mile Rd Detroit, MI 48205: Full time: Posted 6 Days Ago: R26\\_0000000217**Compensation**$24.13 - $34.52(Based on Experience)**Summary**The Water Technician will perform duties in water plant operations including chemical analysis and treatment, process operation and maintenance of plant equipment.**Job Responsibilities*** Operate basic water treatment plant equipment and processes to continually monitor plant-wide operations* Take equipment and process readings at various locations throughout the plant* Load and unload chemicals, polymers, and other materials manually and using motorized equipment* Collect and perform tests on water samples* Perform preventative maintenance on plant equipment* Maintain various records and prepare reports* Perform shift work which includes all day, afternoon, night, weekend and holiday assignments* Wear personal protective equipment (PPE).* Maintain various databases and automated records* Take accurate measurements and keep clear and organized records* Use and care of a variety of hand, power, pneumatic and motorized tools to perform facility and equipment maintenance and repair work* Use basic technology* Effectively monitor and coordinate water plant operational activities* Accurately read gauges charts and meters* Analyze, diagnose and perform corrective action on DCS alarms* Effectively utilize appropriate security and safety equipment and procedures* Maintain regular and reliable attendance* Make arithmetic computations* Read and interpret schematics* Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing* Understand and follow verbal and written instructions* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others* Communicate frequently with the team members and other units across the Organization about process, equipment or potential problems* Develop proficiency in unit specific operations and software* Direct team activities or work as a team member* Follow security and safety policies and procedures in carrying out work dutiesProvide the job training**Required Education and Experience**At the time of application, applicant must: * High School Diploma or GED* Minimum of one (1) year of general laboring, treatment plant operations, mechanical maintenance and repair, facilities maintenance or electrical repair work or equivalent training in a related field**Other Requirements:*** Valid driver’s License the ability to drive a motor vehicle on all terrain* Ability to work irregular hours, to commute to GLWA facilities and work sites**Physical Requirements:**The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential duties.This position requires the ability to climb, bend, twist, carry, stack, hit, push, pull, and other efforts requiring considerable physical strength. This position also requires the ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds, walk, stand, or work for long periods, demonstrate normal color perception, hear audible alarms, detect abnormal equipment sounds, and visually inspect equipment and processes at any time of the day or night. Employees will be required to wear respiratory protection and other personal protective equipment; perform scaffolding, confined spaces, and elevated and underground work. Employees will also be required to pass a bio-mechanical physical and vision test, yearly baseline physical, and fit test for respirator/Self Contained Breathing Apparatus. While performing the duties of this position, employees are regularly required to use their hands to handle, feel or operate the equipment.**Environmental Working Requirements:**Work is performed at the plants. This position requires the ability to work in all conditions involving exposure to outside elements and seasonal weather. Work may be performed near open water, and systems with hazardous chemicals that are acidic, highly corrosive, heat-producing, and potentially explosive. The noise level in this work environment is usually loud. Work may be performed in confined spaces, hazardous areas that require respiratory protection and personal protective equipment (PPE), and under slippery and wet conditions.**Benefits**Comprehensive benefits package effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment.
