Medical Assistant 2The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Sports Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a full time Medical Assistant 2 to work in Doral, FL. The Medical Assistant (MA) 2 will perform multi-skilled tasks to assist the medical providers. The MA 2 shall assist patients' healthcare management and clinical procedures in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service. The MA 2 provides hands-on care to patients while adhering to regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures, under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician. The physician in charge may delegate the tasks to oversee the MA 2 to a Nurse or Designee in charge of the unit/clinic. The MA 2 shall adhere to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize, respond to emergencies, and demonstrate professionalism. The MA 2 provides care within the philosophy, mission, vision, and values, as well as within the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing and the University of Miami. As a professional, monitors the quality of care provided and nurtures a compassionate and healing environment. The MA 2 works directly with the Nurse Manager/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse and/or the Designee in charge of the Unit or Clinic to ensure a safe delivery of care that supports the UHealth mission.Core Job FunctionsUtilizes creative methods to support patient's individual needs and respect patient's spiritual beliefs, faith, and practices.Establishes a trusting relationship by creating and maintaining a conducive climate for healing by being authentically present to the patient and family, identifying and managing discomforts, providing emotional support.Prioritizes and integrates multiple requests and work expectations by performing tasks appropriately, in a timely manner safely and professionally. Communicates clearly and in a timely manner to patient and family, as well as the appropriate team members. Seeks assistance when needed.Contributes to team building by participating in unit/clinic programs and meetings. Commits to positive morale, using constructive and effective conflict resolution skills. Learns and utilizes available technology resources for communication, documentation, and locating pertinent information regarding clinical situations, diagnosis, and treatments.Attains educational knowledge and competencies that reflects current clinical practice skills. Demonstrates commitment to lifelong learning and is responsible for his/her own professional development and maintenance of knowledge regarding the patient population and assignments.Ensures compliance with all State and Federal regulatory guidelines to include Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).Performs professionally within their clinical scope of practice skills utilizing State, Federal, and University of Miami's standards, guidelines, relevant statues, rules, and regulations. Incorporates protocols and standards of care into daily practice.Accepts and provides focused constructive feedback and guidance with loving kindness in a manner that provides growth and maintains self-esteem.Abides by the standards for ethical behavior, therapeutic communication and protecting the privacy of patient information.Assists providers with physical examinations by preparing treatment/exam room with proper supplies, instruments, and materials, as directed.Understands the importance of medical and surgical asepsis. Prepares patients for physician's care with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.Perform vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy, and document in patient's medical record.Cleans and/or sterilizes medical instruments while observing principles of sterile technique. Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work.Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation. Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies, and assists in performing clerical duties.Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.Department Specific FunctionsMay require travel to multiple clinic sites throughout the week.Maintains high level of customer service. Excellent patient relations are an essential component of this position.Provides clinical support to physicians and other medical providers. Assists with minor procedures as needed. Also assists with medication, medical supplies and equipment as needed.Removes sutures/staples, assists in wound care under the direct supervision of a physician.Assesses, applies, and removes casts, splints, and other orthopaedic devices if necessary.Coordinates patient flow in/out of the pod with the goal of and emphasis on minimizing waiting time for the patients.Prepares patient (provides gowns, assists patient), area, and medications for procedures.Maintains exam rooms and cast room fully stocked and ensures that rooms are cleaned after each patient. Uses, maintains and cleans medical equipment.Obtains authorizations for special procedures, etc. from insurance companies. Labels, processes and ships aspirations and needle biopsies.Assists physician in obtaining pertinent medical information from the patient and is always readily available to the physician throughout the examination to facilitate the management of patient care.Handles all medical emergencies in a timely and competent manner always putting patients' safety first.Receives and records requests from patients by telephone (medication refills, referral requests, lab results, medical advice, etc.).Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisorThis list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.Core QualificationsEducation: High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or licenseCertification and Licensing:RequiredCredentialed Medical Assistant certification from a recognized accrediting or certifying body organization (See approved Certifications listed below).Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - Certification from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)®Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (Certification from American Medical Technologists (AMT)Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) (Certification from National Healthcare Association (NHA)National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA ) credential is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) obtained by the National Association for Health Professionals. (NAHP)Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience requiredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
