Travel Technician

Description

Install work-area outlets for floors (monuments), modular furniture (surface-mounted boxes), and walls (box eliminators). Route cabling down walls using fish tape or similar methods and run cables through modular furniture systems. Complete pre-termination tasks, including organizing, dressing, and labeling cables while determining proper lengths and slack. Ensure proper cable support and suspension using cable trays, J-hooks, D-rings, bridal rings, and trapeze systems. Construct and outfit telecommunications closets by mounting backboards, installing racks, cross-connects, patch panels, fiber optics, and associated hardware. Implement grounding for racks, equipment, and cabling as required.

The Communications Technician is also responsible for fire-stopping in rated walls, installing sleeves, and pulling cable through sleeves and core-drilled penetrations. This role includes terminating low-voltage devices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor construction environments. Must be self-motivated, maintain a positive and professional attitude, and contribute to improving project processes. Represents and upholds company culture with employees, vendors, clients, and partners.

Technicians should be capable of interpreting blueprints and project documentation, including specifications, reporting standards, and quality requirements. The role requires working at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs is required. Must be able to distinguish colors, read fine print, and recognize audible signals such as dial tones. Travel within the local or regional service area may be required.

This is a Contract position based out of Altoona, IA.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
