Vice President, Database Engineer

Infra Database Administrator, VP – New York DBA will be part of the Infra Platform team and will provide guidance and support to stream-aligned teams regarding best practices for deploying and maintaining ING US cloud server estate and its underlying databases. The role involves understanding application databases, troubleshooting and resolving issues, ensuring compliance with applicable controls, deploying and verifying security patches, and participating in remediation efforts. Hybrid Work Model ING Americas follows a hybrid work model, allowing a mix of in‑office and work‑from‑home flexibility, varying by business area. Responsibilities Architect and implement database solutions that deliver availability, scalability, performance, recoverability, and security. Allocate hardware resources to databases, maintain high resilience, and optimize performance tuning. Proactively monitor database systems to ensure secure services with minimal downtime. Provide metrics, trend analysis, and recommendations to management to inform resource decisions. Troubleshoot and solve SQL development issues. Implement and release database changes according to agreed timelines and budgets. Develop, implement, and maintain standard operational procedures to provide standardization and stability. Assist developers with stored procedure troubleshooting and performance improvement. Participate in resolution and root‑cause analysis of outages or SLA‑impacting issues. Perform routine operational maintenance, including installations, upgrades, patching, monitoring, auditing, and issue resolution. Operate a 24×7 production environment with on‑call and off‑hours support as required. Participate in disaster‑recovery exercises and incident response. Qualifications and Competencies Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience. 7+ years as a Database Administrator in a Financial Services, Banking, or Investment Banking environment. Proven expertise in Oracle databases in a multi‑tenant environment. Proven expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, including SQL Always‑On. Experience with SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) is a plus. Strong skills in Azure CI/CD pipelines and PowerShell scripting. Knowledge of business areas is a nice‑to‑have. Ability to navigate virtual teams and interface with international stakeholders. Passion for innovation, new market trends, and new technologies. Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Strong organizational sensitivity and understanding of cross‑border organizational dynamics. Continuous improvement mindset.
