Associate Teacher, Humanities, Grades 6-8

The School at Columbia University is an independent K-8 school founded in 2003 with the goal of providing an excellent education to a diverse student body. Responsibilities Stay informed about new developments in the field of Humanities education, including English, history, and interdisciplinary learning, and practice implementing them in classrooms Collaborate with grade-level teams and individual teachers to enhance student learning experiences and optimize outcomes for all students Serve as a co-advisor to a group of middle school students, fostering their academic, social, and emotional development Fulfill duties, responsibilities, and commitments as outlined in theWorking at The School at Columbiaguidebook Actively participate in the high school recommendation process, including writing profiles and recommendations with a team of teachers Keep careful anecdotal and assessment records to write accurate, comprehensive student reports that reflect student growth and support their future education Support overnight and/or extended grade-level trips, as applicable, in support of the teaching team, student experience, and the academic and advisory program Perform other responsibilities as assigned Minimum Qualifications B.A./B.S. degree or an equivalent degree or educational qualification from an accredited college or university Stated desire to teach Humanities (social studies or English) in public, parochial, or independent schools Strong skills in fostering inquiry-based learning, interdisciplinary teaching, and critical thinking in the Humanities Exceptional verbal and written communication skills Preferred Qualifications Degree in Humanities education, English, History, or a related field Knowledge of Spanish Commitment to continuing education in the discipline and/or other related forms of Professional Development Prior classroom teaching experience Familiarity with new technologies Columbia University is an Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / Veteran Pay Transparency Disclosure The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
