IRP & Energy Market Modeling Lead

Position Overview

Principal Consultant / Technical Lead – Infrastructure Advisory. Deliver integrated resource management projects across the client asset lifecycle, focusing on market modeling with platforms such as PLEXOS and Encompass.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead high‑complexity consulting tasks in support of project delivery.
• Provide integrated resource planning (IRP) support, including scenario design, assumptions development, and documentation.
• Execute energy market modeling using tools such as PLEXOS and EnCompass, including production cost, capacity expansion, and portfolio studies.
• Conduct resource adequacy, reliability, and planning reserve margin assessments; evaluate capacity accreditation and ELCC where applicable.
• Perform portfolio optimization and investment planning analyses (generation, storage, transmission, demand‑side resources), including sensitivities on load, fuel, policy, and technology costs.
• Model QA/QC, calibration, and results validation; develop repeatable workflows, templates, and client‑ready exhibits.
• Act as a technical manager or director on strategy and planning projects, managing tasks, budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
• Provide technical subject‑matter expertise, recommend innovative solutions, and produce complex work products across all engagement phases.
• Lead client meetings and workshops, develop presentations, and communicate effectively.
• Support business development, including scope definition, scheduling, and budgeting.

Management Responsibilities

Oversee project teams, allocate resources, and ensure deliverables meet client expectations and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience.
• Typically 10+ years of business/consulting experience.
• Strong knowledge of integrated resource planning, energy market modeling, and portfolio optimization.
• Excellent communication and client‑management skills.

Certifications

• Relevant industry certifications preferred.

Work Environment

• Office or client site with up to 100% travel.
