Construction Project Engineer

Chemsteel Construction Company has an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated Project Engineer to join our Pittsburgh Operations Team. The Project Engineer handles the technical, procurement, and document control disciplines required to successfully execute heavy industrial construction projects. Working closely with the Project Manager and Site Superintendent, the Project Engineer will manage the flow of information and monitor field quality and safety compliance. This position requires a strong technical background, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively in dynamic field environments. The ideal candidate will also have a client-focused approach and will work well independently and as part of the project team. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Generate, log, track, and process Requests for Information (RFIs) and product submittals to keep engineering data moving seamlessly between field crews and design engineers. Evaluate new drawing revisions and contract modifications to identify design discrepancies, quantify cost impacts, and distribute updated specifications to the field. Maintain meticulous project records and markups to compile accurate closeout documentation and final asset handovers. Interpret engineering blueprints, structural schematics, and equipment diagrams. Conduct routine site walkthroughs to verify that work complies with the project's quality plan. Perform or coordinate field measurements and layout verifications to ensure structural and mechanical alignment. Perform detailed quantity take-offs from design documents to support change orders, procurement logs, and cost forecasting. Assist in developing and updating the master construction schedule using Primavera P6 to monitor sequencing milestones. Track daily labor productivity, equipment allocations, and supplier invoices against the budget to minimize cost overruns. Actively promote and enforce the company's Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs on-site. Act as a central hub craft workers, ensuring proper onboarding, material deliveries, and clear scopes of work. Required Skills Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred. Some professional experience in the industrial construction industry, withexperience in concrete, excavation, underground and exposed piping, mechanical, structural or equipment setting is preferred, but not required. Strong working knowledge of interpreting and producing engineering drawings and schematics. Mathematical proficiency utilizing fractions, percentages, ratios for practical situations. Ability to solve practical problems and examine a variety of tangible variables. Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent business and technical writing; Ability to focus on details as required, and have the ability to work well within a deadline driven environment. Solid organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Strong work ethic - results driven. Travel May require overnight and extended travel.
