Regulatory Specialist

The Regulatory Specialist position supports all activities of the Regulatory and Technical Affairs Department. The primary focus of the role is vendor approval, maintaining required vendor documentation, handling customer and consumer complaints, and administration of Kosher applications and documentation. This position is also responsible for product shelf-life testing and assisting in preparation of new product samples as needed. Assisting the Regulatory and Technical Affairs Supervisor in the preparation of product labeling information (NFPs, ingredient listings) and other product and customer documentation is also part of this role. This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time. Responsibilities Perform verification and approval of new raw material suppliers. Maintain all required documentation for suppliers, ensuring that documentation is kept up to date and meets all regulatory, food safety and quality system requirements. Perform shelf-life testing and product analysis to ensure products meet customer requirements. Assist the Supervisor in the development of finished product specification and labeling information, as well as review of final labels; including development of nutrition facts panels, label statements, product claims and claim substantiation. Manage customer and consumer complaints; including responding to customers and consumers, maintaining complaint data, generating trending reports and coordinating with insurance carriers when needed Working with Quality Assurance department to assure CAPAs are provided to customers, when required. Manage Kosher certifications for finished products and raw materials; liaison for visits/communication with Rabbis and Kosher certification organizations. Assist the Supervisor in responding to customer inquiries regarding food safety and quality related documentation; including but not limited to filling out surveys, providing existing documentation, creating technical documentation and providing information through online customer portals. In cooperation with Quality Assurance, participating in internal quality system, GMP and food safety audits Assisting other departments as needed and performing related duties as assigned. Must attend all company required training. Physical Demands and Work Environment This position is an office-based position; but does require the ability to follow GMP guidelines when entering our production facility which is a fast paced manufacturing environment that may include exposure to warm/cold temperatures and noise levels exceeding 85 dB. Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time Perform repetitive tasks Bend, stoop, and kneel Potential allergens exposure to: Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Wheat, Soy, Milk and Eggs Ability to use GMP & PPE appropriately (hairnets, smocks, gloves, etc.) Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (Food Science or related field preferred) or minimum of 3 years relevant work experience Experience in Food Safety and Quality Assurance or Regulatory Affairs preferred Familiarity with HACCP/FSMA, Nutritional Labeling Requirements, and FDA Regulations Customer service and detail-oriented Strong computer, math and communication skills; proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent. Maintain respectful communication with coworkers at all levels within the organization. Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong ability to build effective relationships and work in a team environment. Able to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to determine root causes of issues/concerns and diligently apply corrective actions. Attention to detail and high level of organization and time management skills. Ability to read & write English; Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred. Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard business machines. Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong ability to build effective relationships and work in a team environment. Ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize.
