Graduate Assistant - Men's Basketball

Job Title: Graduate Assistant – Men’s Basketball (Lisle) Reports to: Head Coach – Men’s Basketball Status: Graduate Assistant Rate: $7,200.00 – stipend prorated based on start date Location: Lisle Campus Position Summary This position is responsible for assisting the basketball program with the recruitment and retention of student‑athletes while working to ensure the best student experience possible for the members of the Benedictine University Basketball Program. Responsibilities Assist the basketball program with the identification and successful recruitment of qualified student‑athletes to help place the program in a position of competitive leadership in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Coach and mentor student‑athletes and assist with film breakdown, developing and implementing scouting reports, game and practice plans, and coaching in all traditional and non‑traditional segments that will place the program in a position of competitive leadership in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Assist the head coach, program, and university personnel with the retention of student‑athletes, providing social and academic support and meeting regularly with the members of your assigned position group to monitor their academic progress. Provide instruction in technique and safety procedures in adherence with NCAA regulations and sports performance expectations during the declared playing and practice seasons. Other Functions Develop relationships within Benedictine University and the university community. Attend departmental and university related meetings and events. Maintain a positive student‑athlete assessment for the program from student‑athletes. Work in coordination with university offices and departments to coordinate and facilitate university events. Maintain positive relationships with alumni, parents, students, officials, volunteers, and fans. Serve on university, conference, and national committees as needed. Positively promote Benedictine University and the Department of Athletics on campus and in the community. Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s Degree required. Must be enrolled as a Benedictine student in good standing. Experience: Coaching or playing experience and extensive knowledge of the sport at the collegiate level preferred. Qualifications: Applicant must obtain acceptance into a Benedictine graduate program of Master of Business Administration, Master of Science in Business Analytics, Master of Science in Management & Organizational Behavior, or Master of Public Health. Specific Skills: Organizational skills, writing and typing skills, interpersonal skills, data entry and budget management skills, and demonstrated supervisory skills. Specific Knowledge, Licenses, Certifications: Yes, valid driver’s license, and CPR/AED/First Aid required within the first 90 days of employment. Physical Requirements May be required to lift up to 50 lbs. Must reach, bend, stoop, lift. Must sit, walk, or stand for long periods of time. Ability to handle varying levels of stress while maintaining professional demeanor. Possible lifting, bending, walking, kneeling, stretching, and stooping. Frequent district‑wide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor exposure to sun/heat or cold weather. Ability to speak clearly so listeners can understand. Understand the speech of another person. Ability to see details of objects that are less than a few feet away or more than a few feet away. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
