Within the Global Payment Network, our Integrated Growth and Partnerships team works with counterparties across the payments ecosystem to identify and execute upon key growth objectives to help scale the Discover Network. This new Director of Business Development will join our Integrated Growth & Partnerships team, reporting directly to the Vice President, Head of Branded Network Business Development as a hands‑on, “boots on the ground” dealmaker driving issuer bank adoption across the Discover Network. In this dynamic role, this leader will champion the front‑end deal cycle - actively pitching, negotiating, and closing partnerships with third‑party issuers of all sizes by leveraging the enhancements we are making to the Network to drive our Proprietary growth Capital One National Association. As a thoughtful people manager and organizational choreographer, this person will bring cross‑functional teams together, execute seamless go‑to‑market strategies, and inspire long‑term network growth. Key Responsibilities: Lead the front‑end deal cycle from initial executive pitch through contract negotiation and closing, ensuring a seamless operational hand‑off to relationship managers. Work in collaborative unison with our Finance, Pricing, Strategy, Product and Operations Partners to manage existing clients and drive new deal assessments. Develop a team to strategically source new prospects for Branded Network Sales. Gather real‑time market feedback from issuer prospective calls to help internal product and strategy teams continuously refine network value propositions and market approach. Ability and willingness to travel, as needed, in execution of business development capabilities. Up to 75% travel. Key Competencies: Strategic Sales / Business Development & Relationship Management Experience People Leadership: (Growing and maintaining a highly engaged team) Job Specific Skills: Knowledge and network within the banking and credit card market(s) Extremely effective communication skills (external and internal) Experience contracting and negotiating participation agreements (including understanding of financial levers and structures) Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree At least 8 years of experience in client facing Go-to-Market areas such as Growth, Sales, Customer Success, Revenue Operations At least 3 years experience in negotiation and deal structuring experience in business‑to‑business (B2B) environments. At least 3 years of people management experience Preferred Qualifications: Masters or MBA Experience at a Payment Network or other key Payments Ecosystem Company Analytical acumen for data driven problem solving and negotiations Proven record of being an exceptional communicator—clear, concise, and persuasive across written, verbal, and various presentation formats. At least 5 years of experience scaling a team of high performing associates The minimum and maximum full‑time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part‑time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked. Remote (Regardless of Location): $209,500 - $239,100 for Director, Business Development Anytown, IL: $209,500 - $239,100 for Director, Business Development Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
