Freedom Aviation Network is a national nonprofit organization that mobilizes volunteer pilots, aviation partners, and transportation resources to provide safe, efficient, rapid, and compassionate transportation for survivors of human trafficking and others seeking freedom and restoration.
Working in partnership with survivor-serving organizations across the United States, Freedom Aviation Network removes transportation barriers so individuals can access safety, healing, reunification, court appearances, and other critical services. Guided by its commitment to serve “For the One,” the organization believes that every flight represents more than transportation—it represents hope, dignity, and the opportunity for a new beginning.
Position Summary
The Executive Director serves as the chief staff leader of Freedom Aviation Network and is responsible for advancing the organization’s mission through visionary leadership, fundraising, financial stewardship, strategic partnerships, and operational excellence.
Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides vision, leadership, accountability, and organizational management, ensuring that Freedom Aviation Network fulfills its mission to provide safe, efficient, rapid, and compassionate transportation for survivors of human trafficking and others seeking freedom and restoration.
The Executive Director directly supervises the Agency Coordinator and Flight Coordinator and is responsible for fostering a healthy organizational culture rooted in integrity, accountability, compassion, collaboration, and excellence.
Job Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership
- Lead the organization in achieving its mission, vision, and strategic priorities.
- Lead organizational planning and implementation of the Board-approved strategic plan.
- Develop annual organizational goals and measurable objectives.
- Foster a collaborative, mission-centered organizational culture.
- Build organizational capacity while ensuring responsible stewardship of resources.
- Serve as the organization’s primary spokesperson and public representative.
Fund Development
- Lead all fundraising activities, including major gifts, annual giving, grants, corporate partnerships, aviation partnerships, and special events.
- Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan.
- Cultivate relationships with donors, foundations, corporations, churches, and community leaders.
- Partner with the Board in donor cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation.
- Develop and manage a comprehensive donor stewardship program.
- Ensure excellent donor communication and stewardship.
Financial Stewardship
- Develop and administer the annual operating budget.
- Monitor organizational cash flow and financial performance.
- Maintain strong internal financial controls.
- Present accurate financial information to the Board.
- Ensure compliance with IRS regulations, Form 990 reporting, audits or financial reviews, and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Ensure organizational assets are protected through appropriate financial controls and insurance coverage.
- Protect and strengthen the organization’s long-term financial sustainability.
Board Partnership
- Serve as the Board’s chief staff partner.
- Prepare Board meeting materials and reports.
- Support Board committees and strategic planning.
- Implement Board policies and decisions.
- Maintain open, timely, and transparent communication with the Board.
Staff Leadership
- Recruit, supervise, mentor, develop, and evaluate staff.
- Foster professional growth and accountability.
- Build an effective and collaborative team.
- Ensure compliance with employment policies and applicable laws.
Program Leadership
- Ensure that transportation services are safe, effective, and mission-centered.
- Monitor program quality and operational performance.
- Evaluate organizational outcomes and recommend improvements.
- Work closely with the Agency Coordinator and Flight Coordinator to improve service delivery.
Strategic Partnerships
- Develop relationships with referral agencies, aviation organizations, airports, volunteer pilot organizations, corporate partners, foundations, and government agencies.
- Identify opportunities to expand Freedom Aviation Network’s national reach through strategic partnerships.
- Represent Freedom Aviation Network throughout the community.
- Expand awareness of the organization’s mission and impact.
Risk Management and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
- Maintain organizational policies and procedures.
- Oversee risk management, insurance, confidentiality, and survivor safety practices.
- Promote ethical leadership and organizational accountability.
Organizational Systems
- Ensure that effective financial, technology, communication, fundraising, and operational systems support the organization’s mission.
- Recommend improvements that enhance efficiency, collaboration, and long-term sustainability.

Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit leadership, business, public administration, organizational leadership, social work, or a related field.
- Seven or more years of progressively responsible nonprofit leadership experience.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising and donor development.
- Experience supervising staff and volunteers.
- Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and financial reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build partnerships across diverse sectors.
Preferred
- Experience in anti-human trafficking, victim services, or human services.
- Experience with general aviation, volunteer aviation organizations, transportation logistics, or aviation partnerships.
- Experience working with nonprofit Boards of Directors.
- Grant writing and grant management experience.
