Basic Function and Distinguishing Characteristics
Under the direction of a Maintenance Supervisor II-Mechanical, perform skilled mechanical maintenance duties in the inspection, repair, installation and alteration of large County heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, cooling towers, chilled water systems and related equipment and facilities; perform preventative maintenance and routine servicing of equipment and systems.
The HVAC Mechanic II classification is the advanced class in the series. Incumbents work on large heating units of 60 to 175-ton size and 40 million BTU low-pressure boilers. The HVAC Mechanic I classification is assigned to maintain and repair smaller HVAC equipment and systems. Incumbents work on gas, electrical and self-contained heating units of one to ten-ton size. Education and Experience/ Licenses and Other Requirements
Any combination equivalent to: three years journey-level experience in the HVAC and refrigeration trade including one year of experience maintaining chilled water systems and large cooling units.
Valid California driver's license. Incumbents in this classification must pass a law enforcement security check. Supplemental Information
A valid driver's license may be required at the time of appointment and employees may also be required to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of liability insurance as per Vehicle Code VC § 160020. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
This position may require pre-employment drug test, physical examination, and fingerprinting for a background investigation.
