Training Specialist

Summary:

The Training Specialist is responsible for developing and maintaining firm-wide learning, onboarding, and performance enablement programs for attorneys, legal assistants, and support staff. The role partners cross-functionally with Human Resources, legal teams, operational leaders, subject matter experts, and technology stakeholders to translate firm processes, systems, and standards into scalable training and reference resources. The Training Specialist supports employee readiness, consistent process execution, technology adoption, and continuous improvement across the firm.

Requirements

Onboarding & Role Readiness

· Develop, coordinate, and continuously improve structured onboarding programs for attorneys, legal assistants, and support staff.

· Partner with HR, managers, and subject matter experts to develop role-specific learning pathways and ramp plans.

· Establish learning milestones, assessments, and readiness criteria to support successful transition into assigned responsibilities.

· Coordinate onboarding schedules, facilitators, subject matter experts, technology training, and supporting resources.

· Evaluate onboarding outcomes and identify opportunities to improve employee ramp time and consistency

· Develop recognition materials and milestones to reinforce program completion and employee engagement.

Learning Program Development:

· Design, implement, maintain, and continuously improve firm-wide learning programs, including onboarding, role-specific development, continuing education, manager/supervisor training, compliance training, and targeted skills development.

· Develop structured curricula, learning pathways, facilitator materials, job aids, assessments, and reference resources.

· Partner with subject matter experts to translate legal and operational processes into clear, practical learning materials.

· Establish appropriate delivery methods, including instructor-led training, recorded learning, self-guided resources, coaching, and hands-on practice.

Training Resources & Knowledge Management

· Develop and maintain standardized training materials, SOPs, job aids, recordings, guides, and other learning resources.

· Establish processes for reviewing and updating training content as firm procedures, systems, and requirements change.

· Partner with process owners and subject matter experts to ensure training resources reflect current approved practices.

· Support centralized access to training and reference materials to promote consistent execution across offices and teams.

Training Delivery:

· Facilitate in-person, remote, and hybrid training sessions.

· Conduct one-on-one coaching and skills reinforcement where needed.

· Organize and manage orientation programs for new hires.

· Coordinate logistics for training sessions and vendor-led education events across offices, including scheduling, technology setup, and attendance tracking.

· Provide structured opportunities for follow-up coaching, reinforcement, and employee support outside of formal training sessions.

Process Improvement & Compliance:

· Collaborate with leadership, managers, and subject matter experts to identify learning needs arising from performance trends, process changes, compliance requirements, technology changes, and operational initiatives.

· Distinguish training or knowledge gaps from underlying process, technology, or management issues and escalate findings to appropriate stakeholders.

· Participate in cross-functional initiatives where training, documentation, communication, or user adoption is necessary for successful implementation.

· Provide feedback and recommendations based on recurring themes identified through training, assessments, coaching, and employee questions.

· Administer firm training and professional development policies, including review and approval of membership dues, continuing education, and seminar attendance requests.

Technology & Systems Training:

· Develop and deliver training supporting effective use and adoption of firm technology, including Litify and related legal technology platforms.

· Translate system workflows and configuration changes into role-specific training, documentation, and user guidance.

· Partner with IT, operational stakeholders, and subject matter experts when new technology, workflows, or system enhancements are introduced.

· Identify recurring user challenges, workflow inconsistencies, and adoption gaps surfaced through training and communicate trends to appropriate stakeholders.

· Support change-management and reinforcement efforts associated with new systems and processes.

Evaluation & Reporting:

· Develop assessments, completion standards, and other measures to evaluate learning effectiveness and employee readiness.

· Track participation, completion, assessment results, adoption indicators, and other relevant program outcomes.

· Analyze feedback and performance trends to identify opportunities for reinforcement or program improvement.

· Provide leadership with periodic reporting on training activity, outcomes, recurring gaps, and recommended next steps.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in education, Human Resources, Legal Studies, or related field (or equivalent experience)

· 3+ years of experience in training, learning and development, legal operations, professional development, process improvement, or a related role; experience within a law firm or legal environment strongly preferred.

· Experience with workflow or project management tools (e.g., Asana) and process documentation preferred.

· Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

· Excellent public speaking and presentation skills

· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team

· Knowledge of legal terminology and practices is required

· Familiarity with legal software systems (i.e., Litify) preferred

· Adaptability in a fast-paced, high-volume law firm environment
