Job Summary:
As the Utility Locator I/II, you will be responsible for identifying and marking underground utilities to help prevent damage and ensure safety during excavation, landscaping, and construction activities. You will drive company vehicles to job sites, use digital utility maps and specialized locating equipment, and accurately identify underground electric, gas, telecommunications, and other utility lines. Success in this role requires safe equipment operation, accurate utility marking, professionalism, and effective teamwork in varying field conditions.
Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
· Utilize digital mapping tools, utility records, and locating equipment to identify underground electric, gas, telephone, telecommunications, and other utilities.
· Accurately mark utility locations using paint and flags in accordance with applicable standards and procedures.
· Safely perform utility locating activities in standard and high-risk areas and maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, vehicles, and equipment.
· Operate, clean, and maintain assigned company vehicles, locating equipment, and other tools.
· Represent Congruex in a positive and professional manner when interacting with crews, leadership, clients, and the public.
· Travel overnight to various project sites as requested and perform required physical duties throughout the year and in varying weather conditions.
· Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs
Required Qualifications:
Education, Licensing, and Certifications
· Valid, unrestricted driver's license.
· OSHA 10 certification.
· Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.
Experience
· Locator I: Experience or demonstrated ability to develop the skills necessary to perform utility locating duties with minimal supervision.
· Locator II: At least 2 years of recent experience in underground utility locating and demonstrated mastery of utility locating responsibilities.
· Locator II: Ability to train Utility Locator I employees in essential duties and responsibilities.
Skills and Abilities
· Basic computer skills and ability to effectively use digital mapping tools and locating equipment.
· Ability to safely and productively operate utility locating equipment and perform work in outdoor environments and around heavy equipment.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with crews, leadership, clients, and other stakeholders.
· Ability to perform physically demanding work, including extended walking and standing, bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and working in awkward positions.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
· Locator II: OSHA 30 certification.
· Locator II: Cross-training or experience in another field position, such as Lineman or Splicer.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and perform tasks requiring greater physical exertion as necessary to safely complete job duties.
· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including distances of 1+ miles over uneven terrain.
· Ability to routinely bend, squat, climb, kneel, push, pull, lift, twist, and work in awkward positions.
· Work performed outdoors and around heavy equipment and machinery in varying and inclement weather conditions.
· Ability to maintain visual and audible contact with crew members and moving or stationary persons, vehicles, and objects to ensure safe coordination of movement.
· Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety boots, safety glasses, hard hat, and other applicable safety gear.
· Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.
