Position Summary
A leading construction services organization is seeking an experienced Construction Survey & CAD Technician to support large-scale heavy civil, infrastructure, industrial, energy, and site development projects. This role combines construction surveying, field layout, CAD modeling, machine control technology, quantity tracking, and construction engineering support.
The successful candidate will serve as a critical link between project engineering, field operations, and construction management by translating design data into accurate staking, layout information, machine control models, and construction progress quantities.

This role combines construction surveying, field layout, CAD modeling, machine control technology, quantity tracking, and construction engineering support.
The successful candidate will serve as a critical link between project engineering, field operations, and construction management by translating design data into accurate staking, layout information, machine control models, and construction progress quantities.
The initial assignment will support a major project in the Greater Lincoln, Nebraska area with an anticipated duration of approximately two years before transitioning to future project assignments nationwide.
Responsibilities
- Perform construction layout and staking for earthwork, grading, utilities, drainage systems, concrete foundations, paving, structural elements, and related construction activities.
- Translate engineering drawings, CAD files, design coordinates, and models into accurate field layout information.
- Operate GPS survey equipment, robotic total stations, optical survey equipment, and data collection systems.
- Establish and maintain control points, benchmarks, grades, elevations, and construction reference data.
- Build, maintain, and troubleshoot 3D models, alignments, surfaces, corridors, and machine control files.
- Support earthmoving, grading, and paving operations through GPS machine control technologies.
- Generate cut/fill reports, quantity takeoffs, earthwork calculations, and progress tracking reports.
- Prepare maps, exhibits, sketches, cross sections, profiles, and construction support drawings.
- Review plans, specifications, RFIs, revisions, and engineering documentation to identify impacts to layout and project execution.
- Verify field layout, quantities, grades, elevations, and completed work.
- Support as-built documentation and project closeout activities.
- Assist with drone mapping, aerial data collection, construction progress monitoring, and model verification.
- Identify constructability concerns, drawing conflicts, quantity discrepancies, and field issues and communicate solutions to project leadership.
- Coordinate daily with Project Managers, Superintendents, Operators, Engineers, and subcontractors.
- Lead and supervise survey support personnel, grade checkers, and rodmen as assigned.
- Maintain accurate and organized survey, CAD, machine control, and project documentation.
Required
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in construction surveying, layout, field engineering, CAD modeling, machine control, or related construction technology roles.
- Experience supporting heavy civil, infrastructure, industrial, energy, power, or large-scale site development projects.
- Hands-on experience with Trimble, Leica, and/or Topcon survey equipment.
- Strong experience utilizing GPS survey systems, robotic total stations, and traditional survey methods.
- Experience with Trimble Earthworks or similar machine control platforms.
- Proficiency with Civil 3D, AGTEK, Bluebeam, and related construction software.
- Ability to create and manage 3D surfaces, models, alignments, and machine control files.
- Experience performing earthwork, grading, utility, paving, and concrete quantity calculations.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, grading, utility, and construction drawings.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Valid Driver's License required.
- FAA Drone Certification required.
- Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license or survey-related credentials preferred but not required.
- Experience supporting heavy industrial facilities, data centers, power generation, infrastructure, or large-scale development projects.
- Experience leading survey crews and supporting GPS-guided construction operations.
- Experience with drone mapping and aerial surveying technologies.
- Experience preparing as-built documentation and payment quantity backup.
- Initial assignment located in the Greater Lincoln, Nebraska area for approximately two years.
- Future assignments may require travel and relocation to construction projects throughout the United States.
- Extensive travel may be required for large out-of-state projects.
- Combination of field work, CAD/modeling work, project engineering support, and coordination with construction operations.
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and active construction environments.
- Typical schedule averages 50–60 hours per week during peak construction seasons, with reduced schedules during winter months.
