Role Summary : The Driver is responsible for safely operating and maintaining NAICA vehicles in support of organizational and programmatic needs. This position performs daily vehicle inspections, assists with resident transportation, coordinates vehicle maintenance, maintains accurate transportation and vehicle records, and ensures compliance with all applicable traffic laws, organizational policies, and safety requirements. The Driver also promotes the organization's mission and values by providing professional, courteous, and reliable transportation services to residents and staff.

Primary Job Responsibilities/Duties :

The job duties of the Driver include, but not necessarily limited to, the following:

• Operates assigned vehicle(s) in a safe, defensive, professional, and courteous manner.
• Comply with all applicable traffic laws, regulations, and organizational vehicle policies.
• Conduct and document daily pre-trip vehicle inspections before operating any assigned vehicle.
• Maintains awareness of traffic, weather, and road conditions and adjust driving practices accordingly.
• Provides a communication link between residents and staff.
• Assists passengers, including handicapped, in and out of the vehicle; operates ramps, lifts and securement devices as needed.
• Reads and interprets maps and driving directions to plan the most efficient route service for customers, and reads and interprets road signs in English.
• Keeps the assigned vehicle(s) clean inside and outside.
• Ensure assigned vehicle(s) maintain at least a half tank of fuel whenever possible.
• Maintains accurate, up-to-date records on trip sheets, customer transportation forms, vehicle maintenance, fuel purchases, incident report, accident reports, vehicle condition reports and other records that are requested from management.
• Performs minor maintenance tasks on assigned vehicle(s) as required.
• Fuels the assigned vehicle(s).
• Coordinates the schedule for major or periodic vehicle maintenance with management and staff to minimize service interruptions.
• Immediately report all vehicle defects, damages, accidents, incidents, moving violations, or safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
• Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and in service training to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Strictly adhering to safety, health, and fire hazard guidelines, organizational policies, and procedures, as well as the mission and values of the organization.
• Promptly reporting any immediate safety hazards to appropriate supervisory or maintenance personnel.
• Collaborating with security personnel to ensure the safety of both staff and residents in the program.
• Demonstrating flexibility in scheduling, including the possibility of working evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Ensure all passengers wear seatbelts and comply with vehicle safety requirements.
• Ensure all items and cargo transported in company vehicles are properly secured.
• Never use company vehicles for personal purposes or unauthorized activities.
• Never use personal or company electronic devices while operating a vehicle.
• Provide coverage for other areas as directed/needed.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk, stand, kneel, crouch, and bend over.
• Ability to lift, carry, reach, and handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods.
• Ability to travel to different locations within New York City, as needed.

Work Environment / Schedule Requirements

• May at times be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays based on organizational needs, deadlines, or events.
• May be required to travel to various program locations throughout New York City.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or General Educational Development ("GED") Diploma, and one (1) or more years of professional driving experience.
• Valid New York State Driver's License is required; Commercial Driver's License ("CDL") is preferred.
• Must maintain a satisfactory driving record and continued eligibility to operate company vehicles under NAICA's vehicle insurance requirements.
• Knowledge of vehicle operations, inspections, preventative maintenance, and basic vehicle safety procedures.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, organized and efficient, and recordkeeping abilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated professionalism, maturity, integrity, and sound judgement.
• Experience interacting with vulnerable populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health conditions, or other barriers to stability, preferred.
• Knowledge of and ability to comply with all requirements of NAICA's Vehicle Policy.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments.
• Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand English for administrative purposes.
• Must pass drug test to be appointed.
• This position may be subject to a series of checks before and/or after appointment.
