Radiation Therapist - TMCH Cancer Center Job Category: Allied Health Schedule: Full time Shift: 1 - Day Shift Job Summary Administers targeted doses of radiation as prescribed by a radiologist to a patient to treat cancer and other diseases. Assists in preparing sealed radioactive materials, calculates actual treatment dosages, and prepares equipment such as immobilization, treatment, and protection. Essential Functions Administers targeted radiation therapy to treat cancerous tumors as prescribed by radiologists and oncologists. Positions patients with precision, operates advanced radiation therapy equipment, and ensures patient safety by adhering to radiation protection protocols. Delivers compassionate care, monitoring patient responses, and collaborating with the healthcare team to achieve optimal outcomes. Administers prescribed doses of radiation to targeted body parts, using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and safety protocols. Performs regular equipment checks of radiation therapy equipment to ensure proper functionality and troubleshoot issues as needed. Maintains records, reports, or files required, including such information as radiation dosages, equipment settings, or patients’ reactions. Conducts treatment sessions independently, in accordance with long‑term treatment plan and under the general direction of the patient’s physician. Enters data into computer and sets controls to operate or adjust equipment or regulate dosage. Observes and reassures patients during treatment and reports unusual reactions to physician. Adheres to TMCH organizational and department‑specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies, and standards. Performs related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education: Associate degree or equivalent from two‑year college or technical school. Experience: None required. Licensure or Certification: Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) Certified Therapy Technologist (CTT), American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) certification, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of field related scanner use and application and the proper use to allow for accurate evaluation and reading by physicians. Knowledge of how to transfer images from disk to magnetic media to produce transparencies. Skill in placing the patient to ensure proper and most accurate scanning. Skill in providing quality control for completeness of transparencies and scans, and monitoring and using equipment. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence. Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to calculate figures and compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; ability to apply basic algebraic concepts.
