Phlebotomist Representative I - Hospital - North Vernon, IN Monday to Friday, days and hours may vary 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, with rotational weekends. Pay range: $17.67+ per hour Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and certifications. The Phlebotomist I draws quality blood samples from patients while following established practices and procedures. The role requires direct patient contact, creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures and drawing specimens skillfully, safely, and accurately. Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all age groups. Accurately label and process specimens according to laboratory protocol. Maintain cleanliness and organization of phlebotomy carts and work areas. Administer oral solutions such as Glucola according to established training. Data entry and process specimens, including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required by test order. Perform departmental‑related clerical duties such as inventory, stock supplies, and answer phones when needed. Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures and ensure staff compliance. Observe infection control and safety protocols at all times. Maintain phlebotomy logs, including maintenance and temperature logs, in a timely manner. Complete data entry requirements accurately, including patient registration and test order entry. Report required repairs and maintenance to the Group Leader or Supervisor. Complete training courses and keep up to date with latest phlebotomy techniques. Communicate effectively with patients, nursing staff, and lab personnel. Participate in special projects and teams. Rotate through inpatient, outpatient, physicians' offices, and ED settings as scheduled. Assist with training new staff or students as needed. Stay up to date on company communications. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as needed. Qualifications Required Work Experience: Proficient phlebotomy skills, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections. Flexible and available based on staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on‑call, and overtime. Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record, if applicable. Preferred Work Experience: One year of phlebotomy experience preferred. Customer service and healthcare experience preferred. Keyboard/data entry experience. May also support pre‑analytical laboratory functions. Physical and Mental Requirements Lift light to moderately heavy objects (1–25 lbs); objects over 41 lbs require assistance. Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods; requires long hours of eye‑hand coordination. Use stairs and/or elevators to move between floors as required. Perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently. May require travel. Extensive use of phone and PC. Fine dexterity and steadiness. Positional coordination (balancing, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting). Work Environment Hospital environment. Exposure to patient temperament / graphic traumas. English required. Education High School Diploma or Equivalent.
