Scientist 2 – Research and Discovery Location: Carlsbad, California (2251 Faraday Ave). Work Shift: Standard. Travel: No. Medical Surveillance: Not Applicable. Job Overview Responsible for initiating new research and experiments, leading medium‑sized projects or multiple smaller projects, and executing advanced preclinical scientific research and development. Responsibilities Use professional concepts to contribute to company concepts and principles and achieve objectives in creative and effective ways. Act as an independent researcher, seeking advice for complex/challenging work and participating in the development of patent applications. Work on marginally complex problems requiring in‑depth evaluation of various factors. Determine methods and procedures on new assignments and provide guidance to lower‑level personnel. Provide sound and original suggestions for new problems. Plan and conduct work requiring specialized techniques, evaluating approaches to problems and applying an analytical approach to solutions. Participate in team or lead submissions of ideas for inventions, patents, or scientific publications. Perform Freedom to Operate (FTO) analysis. Write clinical trial protocols and order necessary materials. Document development work, write technical reports, and produce cost estimates. Supervise medium‑sized project teams and direct day‑to‑day work of less experienced employees. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree (±16 years) in biological or physical sciences, or mathematics. Minimum of 5 years progressively responsible research and development experience. Proficiency in advanced laboratory skills and problem‑solving. Strong knowledge of science and ability to apply complex principles. Preferred Qualifications Master’s or PhD. 10 years experience in research and development. Demonstrated knowledge of molecular cloning, PCR, qPCR, RT‑PCR, bioconjugation, and protein characterization (HPLC, SDS‑PAGE, ELISA, Biacore). Advanced knowledge of experimental approaches/protocols and scientific methods. Ability to work effectively on cross‑functional teams. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
