Lead the Future of Rehabilitation Medicine Our confidential client is seeking an accomplished Board Certified or Board Eligible Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Physician (Physiatrist) to serve as the Medical Director of a premier inpatient rehabilitation hospital in SC.
This is far more than a traditional PM&R position.

Position Overview As Medical Director, you'll combine an active inpatient rehabilitation practice with physician leadership responsibilities that directly impact clinical quality, patient outcomes, physician engagement, and hospital growth.
You'll collaborate closely with executive leadership, nursing, therapy, case management, consulting specialists, and hospital administration to ensure every patient receives exceptional, evidence-based rehabilitation care.

Clinical Responsibilities You'll provide comprehensive Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation services including:

• Comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation consultations
• Daily patient rounding
• Admission evaluations
• History & Physical examinations
• Individualized rehabilitation treatment planning
• Functional assessments
• Neuromuscular and musculoskeletal evaluations
• Pain management
• Spasticity management
• Electrodiagnostic medicine (EMG/NCS) when applicable
• Diagnostic and therapeutic injections
• Prevention of secondary disability complications
• Medical management of complex rehabilitation patients
• Coordination with consulting specialists
• Emergency rehabilitation consultations
• Timely, compliant medical documentation

Medical Director Responsibilities Serve as the physician leader for the rehabilitation hospital by:

• Leading interdisciplinary rehabilitation conferences
• Partnering with executive leadership on hospital strategy
• Developing and improving clinical policies
• Driving quality improvement initiatives
• Supporting CMS, Joint Commission, and IRF compliance
• Mentoring physicians and clinical staff
• Improving patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes
• Participating in physician recruitment and onboarding
• Promoting evidence-based rehabilitation practices
• Helping grow rehabilitation services and community partnerships

Minimum Qualifications (Must Have)

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R)
• Completion of an ACGME- or AOA-accredited PM&R residency
• Eligible for or currently licensed to practice medicine in Connecticut
• Active DEA registration (or ability to obtain prior to start)
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to evidence-based rehabilitation medicine
• Passion for improving patient outcomes

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous Medical Director, Associate Medical Director, Chief of PM&R, or physician leadership experience
• Experience practicing in an Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (IRF)
• Experience leading interdisciplinary rehabilitation teams
• Knowledge of CMS, IRF-PAI documentation, Joint Commission standards, and rehabilitation quality metrics
• Experience with EMG/NCS, ultrasound-guided injections, spasticity management, Botox, musculoskeletal medicine, or interventional rehabilitation procedures

• Are you open to relocating to Waterbury, Connecticut , if necessary?
