Certified First AssistantThe Certified First Assistant provides patient care under the direct supervision of the Physician and the Registered Nurse. The CFA demonstrates responsibility and accountability in selecting, assembling, testing, and operating equipment and instruments in accordance with policies and procedures. The CFA is responsible and accountable in performing as a primary scrub person handling the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure while applying principles of sterile technique.In addition, the CFA functions as a Certified First Assistant during designated surgical procedures and provides intraoperative assistance within the approved scope of practice, credentialing requirements, and demonstrated competencies.
