The Post Anesthesia Care Units at MGH are comprised of 7 individual critical care areas dedicated to the care of adult and pediatric patients preceding and immediately following surgery and/or procedures requiring anesthesia. The unit operates 24 hours per day with Anesthesia and Nurse Practitioner medical coverage. This is a full-time evening position. Shift will be either 11 AM to 9 PM or 10 AM to 8:30 PM. Bachelor’s Degree Nursing required or Master’s Degree Nursing strongly preferred. Job Summary Directs, plans and coordinates the service activities and staffing performance of professional nursing and auxiliary nursing personnel in rendering quality patient care. May provide direct patient care. Essential Functions Ensure the development, implementation, and evaluation of staff onboarding, training, and education. Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback for staff. Ensure a positive work environment that is safe for patients, visitors and staff. Coordinate unit activities with other hospital departments. Develop and implement staffing plans. Qualifications Education Bachelor’s Degree Nursing required or Master’s Degree Nursing preferred. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No. Licenses and Credentials Registered Nurse (RN) - MA license required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate preferred. Experience Nursing experience 2-3 years required. Nursing leadership experience 1-2 years preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Excellent critical thinking and problem‑solving skills. Strong commitment to clinical excellence. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Knowledgeable of the care required by respective age groups for which care is provided.
