Senior Underwriter/UW Specialist: Inland Marine

The primary purpose of this position is to underwrite new business and renewals in a profitable manner, following authority levels and established guidelines, and participate in special projects that impact the business. What you'll be doing Review, analyze, accept, and decline inland marine risks to ensure profitability for the company. Communicate with underwriting management on account status, producer relationships, and recommend operational improvements. Underwrite new business that produces underwriting profit. Identify exposure and risk from submissions; review renewal terms, conditions, and pricing; handle related account servicing. Monitor producers for profitability and production and recommend corrective action as needed. Develop and maintain productive relationships within the assigned region and product line management. Facilitate cross‑sell opportunities with other divisions through promotion of company products and services. Manage broker relationships in both retail and wholesale channels. Travel within the Northeast region. Qualifications Minimum 5+ years of current experience underwriting inland marine business. Bachelor’s degree and relevant industry designations. Proven reputation with wholesale and retail distribution. Knowledge of pricing using loss rating and actuarial modeling tools. Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment. Excellent customer service skills. Demonstrated technical knowledge and progression in increasing responsibility. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Superior MS Office and underwriting system skills. Strong analytical and organizational skills. Team player who enjoys a flexible and spontaneous business environment. Pay Information The base salary is based on compensable factors such as job‑relevant education, experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The national average salary range for the Senior Underwriter position is $92,880 – $127,710 with 25% incentive; for the Underwriting Specialist position it is $104,480 – $143,660 with a 25% incentive.
