Medical AssistantReports to Office ManagerCahaba Medical Care Foundation is a community health center organization providing medical, pharmacy, dental, and behavioral health services to diverse underserved communities in Jefferson, Bibb, Perry, Marengo, Chilton and Shelby counties. We are a Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home and Joint Commission accredited organization, committed to increasing integration and coordination of behavioral health and primary care. This is an exciting, fast paced practice with a strong mission and commitment to providing high quality care.This position is located in Wilcox CountyPurpose: To assist the providers as well as the other nursing staff and medical assistants in providing efficient and high quality patient care.Travel may be required from time to time to complete assigned responsibilities.Principle Responsibilities:Triage patients and take vital signsDocument all patient care in electronic medical record (EMR)Complete patient paperwork including prior authorizations, home health paperwork, medical supply paperwork, etc.Assist provider with:Performing exams, invasive procedures and minor surgeriesOrdering standard laboratory tests for chronic disease visitsCompleting quality management in EMRReconciling medications and allergies for each patient at each clinical encounterE-prescribing medications once the appropriate changes to the medicines have been made by the provider.Schedule consultation appointments or imaging appointments for patientsPrepare patients for examination or proceduresSet up for proceduresRespond to patient messages, schedule appointments and proceduresClean and stock rooms, and update inventory recordsAdminister medications and vaccines upon satisfactory assessment of competencyPerform patient tests and screenings, including x-rays, upon satisfactory assessment of competencyPerform waived laboratory testing as ordered by physician upon satisfactory assessment of competencyRemove sutures or staples from superficial wounds, as well as casts, splints, and other external devices.Work through assigned tasks in EMRCommunicate with other physician offices, patients, and other ancillary health care offices like pharmacies at the direction of the providersAdditional Responsibilities for LPNs with active license:Start IVs, upon satisfactory assessment of competencyQualifications:Satisfactory completion of CMCF Medical Assistant Training ProgramCertified Medical Assistant preferred but not requiredExperience in a medical office desiredExcellent customer service and phone communication skillsBasic experience with computersAbility to manage time, multitask, and handle high-stress environments
