Job Description Summary A sonographer uses ultrasound high-frequency sound waves to capture images of the body’s internal organs and tissues to assist doctors with diagnosing and monitoring a variety of conditions and diseases. A sonographer is also known as a diagnostic medical sonographer or an ultrasound technician. Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Hourly Cardiac Sonographer I Under general supervision, the Cardiac Sonographer I performs high quality echocardiograms for interpretation and diagnosis by a cardiologist, adhering to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. The role applies knowledge of clinical cardiology, acoustic imaging technology, and problem-solving skills to optimize the echocardiographic evaluation, tailoring and expanding the exam to ensure comprehensiveness and diagnostic accuracy. The position requires independent and efficient performance of echo exams, organizing and prioritizing patient exams, contributing to unit teamwork, and assisting in the orientation and training of residents, students, and visitors assigned to the Echocardiography Laboratory. Minimum Training and Education Graduation from a Cardiovascular / Ultrasound program or equivalent experience, with registry‑eligible status for certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS). Associate of Arts/Science or bachelor’s degree in a Cardiovascular or Ultrasound program or equivalent experience. New graduates must obtain appropriate credential within one year from the date of graduation as per IAC standards. One year of training or experience in performing cardiac ultrasound procedures including 2D, M-Mode, and Doppler. Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required; either an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider certification.
