Founding Software Engineer

Galaxy is an applied lab building bespoke context systems alongside ambitious teams. Successful AI deployments run on context that's governed, access-controlled, well-structured, and centrally managed. We help enterprises build and own that layer, because their knowledge is one of their most valuable assets.

We're open source first. Our flagship project is Filament, a fast, pluggable, Apache 2.0 data movement engine and the fastest benchmarked Postgres to Postgres replication engine in the world. Databases, APIs, event streams, and object storage all run through one pipeline. The big goal is an open source context management system any company can run and own.

We also work directly with customers, deploying production systems alongside their teams. Everything we open source is proven in real company environments first.

Galaxy was founded by Mitch Bregman and Leon Kozlowski, who have led large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure across Flock Safety, Bloomberg, Unify, and DARPA programs. The team includes architects of high-profile open source projects, including Wails, the popular Go desktop app framework. We're a small, focused team in New York, backed by Caffeinated, Bungalow, Crew, and Moonriver.

The Role

We're hiring a Senior or Staff Software Engineer to help lead Galaxy's infrastructure. Our systems move, verify, and model data for companies whose products and AI depend on it being correct. You'll own major parts of our Go platform and open source projects, including Filament, where throughput, concurrency, and correctness are the whole game.

You'll be one of our first senior engineers. You'll work with the founders on architecture, shape how we build, and raise the bar for the engineers around you.

You will…

Design and own high-performance, highly concurrent Go systems from design through production

Improve the throughput, efficiency, and reliability of how data moves through our platform

Keep our systems correct and recoverable under failure as they scale

Lead the technical side of customer deployments and turn their hardest problems into product

Shape Filament's architecture and roadmap in the open

Mentor engineers, review code, and help define our engineering culture

Set the standard for how we build with AI without lowering the bar

6+ years building complex technical products, with deep expertise in Go

Experience shipping and operating distributed systems in production

A deep understanding of Go concurrency, and the profiling skills to prove a change actually helped

Real depth in at least one of distributed systems, concurrency control, data replication, or memory management

Strong systems design judgment and a clear sense of how architectural choices play out over time

Comfort working in Python and TypeScript when needed

The discipline to use AI to move faster without compromising correctness or reliability

The ownership to take a customer problem to a shipped fix without being handed a spec

Have worked with gRPC or ConnectRPC

Have built or run streaming infrastructure like NATS or Kafka

Have experience with Kubernetes and infrastructure as code

Understand database internals like WAL, logical replication, or storage engines

Have maintained or been a major contributor to a popular open source project
