MAT Peer Mentor - Regular, F/T

SUMMARY

Under the overall supervision of the K'ima:w Medical Center MAT Director and the direct supervision of the MAT Supervising Counselor, the incumbent will carry a difficult case load involving the determination of analyzing the client's substance abuse issues and ensuring that quality-of-life needs are met. The Tribal Medical Assisted Treatment Peer Mentor is responsible for coordinating medicated-assisted treatment (MAT) substance abuse services for clients, and identifying the basic needs of the client in relation to job readiness, educational goals, housing issues, and developing recommendations. While also providing direct services such as transportation to and from appointments, the Peer Mentor will coordinate links for clients to services and resources in the community. In addition, the TMAT Peer Mentor will assist with transportation to and from groups and activities for clients seeking recovery and promote healthy lifestyles within the community. The TMAT Peer Mentor will be a part of a multidisciplinary team and represent the agency at community events, meetings, and during program reviews. In addition, the TMAT Peer Mentor will be responsible for always attending staff meetings in support of planning and coordination of the MAT program participants and supporting MAT growth and program development.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be registered or certified by one or more of the following certifying boards recognized by the State of California and Indian Health Services (CCAPP, AAHCPAD, CAARR, RAS, CAD DTP, CAADE, CCBCDC, IACC) or able to obtain this within the probation period (90 days). Must have knowledge of and apply Evidence Based Practices in the area of Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment. If recovering from chemical dependency, must have a minimum of two years sobriety or 1 year of sobriety with demonstrated understanding of recovery, i.e., 12 Steps, Wellbriety, Sweat Lodge. Willingness to work with culturally diverse populations. Willingness to learn new skills and participate in training sessions relevant to the position and corresponding issues. Must demonstrate emotional stability, adaptability, firmness, patience, self-control, and tact; possess good communication skills, a professional appearance, and possess good judgment in moral, ethical, and cultural matters. Knowledge of and sensitivity to the needs of Native American community/culture. Availability to work evening or weekend hours are required.
