ECMO Specialist 3-12

Role Overview: The ECMO Specialist manages daily ECMO program operations, monitoring and troubleshooting ECMO circuits and related equipment to ensure optimal function and safety. Key Responsibilities Independently administers blood products and medications, ensuring safety and accuracy for diverse patient populations. Collaborates with bedside nurses to maintain adequate perfusion, acid-base balance, and hemodynamic stability within prescribed parameters. Manages ECMO circuit troubleshooting, crisis management, and emergency procedures following policies and procedures. Performs quality control, preventive maintenance, and supports continuous quality improvement initiatives. Participates in patient transport, including ground, helicopter, and fixed-wing ECMO transfers. Assists in managing CRRT when connected to ECMO and supports physical/occupational therapy activities. Engages in ongoing education, professional development, and contributes to departmental quality evaluations. Qualifications & Skills Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy or Nursing program with current licensure. Minimum of 2 years ICU experience; ECMO-specific experience and Primer training preferred. Required certifications include BLS, PALS, ACLS; licensure as RRT or RN in Florida.
