MUST BE A CURRENT CITY OF COLUMBIA EMPLOYEE WHO HAS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED A PROBATIONARY PERIOD.
- Operates fire apparatus to deliver fire crews and equipment to emergency and non-emergency scenes. Performs firefighting tactics as needed.
- Responds to medical and service calls; provides safety on emergency scenes and performs Basic Life Support (BLS) and emergency care.
- Monitors and maintains apparatus and equipment to ensure proper functioning and/or adequate supply.
- Participates in ongoing training and education on relevant skills and topics.
- Performs station maintenance and upkeep.
- Provides reports for activities as required.
- Fosters public relations and educates public regarding fire safety.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- No supervisory authority. Work may require providing guidance and training to others.
- Work may require providing advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies. Contact may require the consideration of different points of view to reach agreement. Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas.

- Position has no fiscal responsibility.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of three years as a City of Columbia Firefighter.
- Valid driver's license.
- Cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.
- State of Missouri Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic License.
- Maintenance of licenses and certifications is a requirement for continued employment.
- Fire suppression tools, equipment, apparatus, and vehicles, including maintenance and operation.
