Position Details

Shift: Day 4x12-Hour (07:00 - 19:30)

Patient Ratios: 1:3-4

Experience Required: 1 year of experience within the last 3 years in Medical Surgical/Telemetry/Progressive Care Unit (PCU); PCU and neuro stepdown experience with NIHSS certification preferred.

Job Requirements

• Certifications: BLS required; ACLS and NIHSS certification preferred.
• Floating: Clinicians may float within scope to meet facility needs, including to nearby facilities.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required, but not greater than every other weekend.
• Locals Accepted: Yes

Responsibilities

Nurses in this role will be responsible for:

• Management of telemetry and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Non-invasive airway management and peripheral line care/management
• Rapid response team activation and management of dysrhythmias
• Administering and managing cardiac drips (e.g., nitroglycerin, Cardizem, amiodarone)
• Computerized documentation and adherence to isolation precautions

Patient Demographics

The unit serves a diverse patient population including:

• Adolescents
• Adults
• Geriatrics

Common diagnoses include brain or nervous system disorders such as:

• Strokes
• Multiple sclerosis
• Parkinson's disease
• Traumatic brain injuries
• Central nervous system infections

Special Procedures and Equipment

Experience with the following is required:

• Cardiac drips management
• Heparin protocols
• Bedside NG tube placements
• CSF drains

Work Environment

This is a 30-bed unit dedicated to neurotrauma care, focusing on providing outstanding patient care with interdisciplinary support from various healthcare professionals.

Additional Information

Staff will receive training in NIHSS, swallow screening, and spine immobilization. The unit holds certification as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission and is recognized for its excellence in spinal care.
