Step into a day on the arc

Your shift begins by opening fabrication drawings and reading weld symbols and job specifications. You choose the right process—FCAW, SMAW, or GMAW—based on facility requirements and the materials at hand, from steel to aluminum. You prep your work: grind, bevel, clean, fit, and position parts so the welds land exactly where they should. Then you run structural welds on plates, beams, frames, brackets, foundations, supports, and other key components. Throughout the day, you follow company and client safety rules and wear the proper PPE.

Core responsibilities

• Interpret blueprints, drawings, weld symbols, and job specifications.
• Perform structural welding on steel, aluminum, and other materials as required by the jobsite.
• Select and apply FCAW, SMAW, GMAW, or other processes according to facility needs.
• Fabricate and weld structural elements: plates, beams, frames, brackets, foundations, and supports.
• Prepare materials by grinding, beveling, cleaning, fitting, and positioning parts for weld-up.
• Comply with all company and client safety requirements, including correct PPE use.

What you bring

• Previous experience as a structural welder in a shipyard, fabrication shop, or industrial setting.
• Ability to pass a hands-on welding test.
• Ability to read basic blueprints, welding symbols, and take measurements.
• Knowledge of welding safety practices and appropriate PPE.
• Proficiency with grinders, torches, welding machines, hand tools, and measuring tools.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a crew.
