Supervisory Medical Records Technician (ROI)

This Supervisory Medical Records Technician (ROI) position is located within the Business Office Service Line at the Manchester VA Medical Center. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements Citizenship: Be a U.S. citizen. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens according to 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). English Language Proficiency: Proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). Experience and Education: One year of creditable experience that indicates knowledge of medical terminology and general understanding of health records. Six months of that one year must have provided the KSAs needed to perform MRT (ROI) work. OR an associate’s degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education with major field of study in health information technology/health information management, or a related degree with a minimum of 12 semester hours in health information technology/health information management (including courses in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, legal aspects of health care, and introduction to health records). OR an equivalent combination of creditable experience and education. Substitutions include: Six months of creditable experience plus at least six semester hours of health information technology/health information management courses. Six months of creditable experience plus completion of a military training program in medical technician or related field that includes courses in anatomy and physiology and health record techniques and procedures. GS‑8 Supervisory Medical Records Technician (ROI) Grade Determination Experience: One year of creditable experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to develop policy and provide workload analysis for release of information. Skill in interpersonal relations and conflict resolution. Ability to provide or coordinate staff development and training. Ability to provide the full range of supervisory duties, including assignment of work, performance evaluation, staff selection, recommendations of awards, advancements, and disciplinary actions.
