Summary The North Florida / South Georgia VA Healthcare System invites applications for a Dermatologist to join the Primary Care Service team at the Gainesville, FL facility. This role offers an opportunity to provide exceptional care to Veterans and contribute to high‑quality dermatologic services within the VA system. Basic Requirements United States citizenship (non‑citizens may be considered only when no qualified citizens can be recruited). Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from a VA‑approved school. Current, full and unrestricted medical license in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited dermatology program leading to board certification eligibility. Residency may be: (1) a U.S. ACGME or AOA accredited program; (2) one year of approved post‑medical school training followed by two years of independent practice in the U.S.; or (3) non‑U.S. training followed by at least three years of verified independent practice in the U.S., including duties relevant to dermatology. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs that meet the basic requirements are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent basis. PRPs must hold a full, unrestricted license and perform duties under supervision. Proficiency in spoken and written English is required. Board certification in Dermatology is preferred. For more information on qualification standards, visit Physical Requirements Must pass a pre‑employment physical examination per VA Handbook 5019. Ability to lift up to 44 lbs. (carry objects up to 15 lbs.), reach above shoulder, use fingers and hands, use motor vehicles, walk, stand up to 8 hours, bend, climb, and hear at whisper level. Physically, emotionally, and mentally stable to perform essential functions safely. Duties Provide comprehensive dermatology services including: aspiration, incision and drainage of cutaneous abscesses, reading and interpretation of KOH, Tzanck smears, gram stains, hair and mite preparations; cryosurgery of benign and premalignant skin lesions; chemical and surgical destruction of malignant lesions (including curettage, electrosurgery, and other techniques); excision of benign and malignant lesions (simple and complex with flaps and grafts as needed); intralesional, dermal, subcutaneous, intramuscular, or IV injections; nail procedures; patch testing (including photopatch); skin biopsies (shaves, punches, incisional, and excisional); ultraviolet light therapy for skin conditions; teledermatology and other telehealth modalities. Work schedule: Monday‑Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.; additional shifts may be required based on facility needs. Compensation and Benefits Competitive salary with annual performance bonus and regular salary increases. Paid time off: 50–55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays, plus up to 5 days for CME). Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5‑year vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% VA contribution. Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, long‑term care, and other federal insurance programs (many can be carried into retirement).
