Police Officer

The Town of Honea Path is seeking qualified, motivated, and community-oriented individuals to serve as Police Officers. Officers are responsible for protecting life and property, preserving the peace, enforcing federal, state, and local laws, and providing exceptional service to the citizens of Honea Path. The ideal candidate demonstrates integrity, professionalism, sound judgment, and a commitment to community policing while maintaining the highest ethical standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Patrol assigned areas to prevent crime and maintain public safety. Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service. Enforce federal, state, and local laws and municipal ordinances. Conduct traffic enforcement and investigate motor vehicle collisions. Investigate criminal incidents, collect evidence, and prepare detailed reports. Make arrests when necessary and testify in court proceedings. Assist citizens by providing information, guidance, and community support. Work collaboratively with other law enforcement agencies, fire departments, EMS, and community organizations. Participate in community policing initiatives and public outreach events. Maintain department equipment, uniforms, and assigned vehicles. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. South Carolina Class I Law Enforcement Certification preferred (or ability to obtain certification). Valid South Carolina driver's license or ability to obtain one. Must successfully pass a background investigation, physical examination, psychological evaluation, and drug screening. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in stressful situations. Preferred Qualifications Prior law enforcement experience. Experience in community-oriented policing. Specialized law enforcement training or certifications. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of criminal law and law enforcement procedures. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to prepare accurate reports and maintain records. Strong ethical standards and professional demeanor. Ability to establish positive relationships with the public and fellow employees. Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs. Physical Requirements The position requires standing, walking, running, lifting, bending, climbing, and other physical activities associated with law enforcement duties. Officers must be able to safely operate police vehicles and equipment and perform all essential job functions.
