Pay: $30 to $45 Per Hour BOE

Job description:

The Safety Tech is a field-based safety support role responsible for observation, documentation, verification support, worker interaction, and escalation of unsafe conditions to project supervision and designated safety leadership. This role helps maintain site visibility and operational discipline but does not serve as the final control authority for site-wide safety governance.

The Safety Marshal validates, approves, and controls work execution.

The Safety Tech provides field visibility and signal generation.

Together, these roles form the project’s field safety control system.

Key Responsibilities — Safety Tech (ST)

1. Field Presence & Work Observation

· Perform continuous field walkthroughs of active work areas, access routes, material handling zones, and changing site conditions.

· Observe ongoing work activities for alignment with CW, client, and project safety requirements.

· Maintain visible field presence to support safe work execution and immediate issue identification.

2. Pre-Task Plan (PTP) & Permit Verification Support

· Verify that required PTPs, permits, and supporting documentation are present, current, and available at the point of work.

· Review documentation for completeness and alignment with observed field conditions.

· Identify gaps between planned controls and actual execution and escalate discrepancies to supervision and site safety leadership.

3. Hazard Recognition & Exposure Identification

· Identify visible hazards and uncontrolled energy conditions across active work tasks.

· Focus on task-level exposure including:

o Fall hazards

o Electrical / mechanical / stored energy

o Crush and pinch points

o Chemical exposure conditions

· Recognize when conditions deviate from planned work or when safeguards are missing, bypassed, or ineffective.

4. Field Condition Monitoring

· Monitor and report on:

o Housekeeping and access/egress

o Barricades, signage, and work-area controls

o PPE usage and compliance

o Ladder use and condition

o Cord, tool, and temporary power conditions

o Equipment condition and visible defects

· Document observed deficiencies and track them through resolution.

5. Worker Interaction & Field Engagement

· Engage workers and subcontractors in the field to reinforce safe work expectations.

· Support understanding of task hazards and required controls without assuming supervisory authority.

· Communicate observed risks clearly and professionally at the point of work.

6. Documentation & Record Support

· Maintain accurate daily logs, observation reports, inspection records, and permit tracking documentation.

· Collect, review, and upload required safety documentation (daily, weekly, monthly).

· Ensure documentation reflects actual field conditions, not assumptions.

7. Inspection & Corrective Action Tracking

· Perform routine safety inspections of work areas and equipment.

· Identify deficiencies and assist in tracking corrective actions to closure.

· Follow up on previously identified issues to verify resolution.

8. Incident Response Support

· Support incident response activities including:

· Scene documentation

· Photo collection

· Initial fact gathering

· Witness information collection

· Assist in tracking corrective actions under direction of site safety leadership.

9. Escalation & Stop-Work Support

· Immediately escalate:

· Uncontrolled energy exposures

· Missing or ineffective controls

· Repeated non-compliance

· Stop or pause work in cases of imminent danger and notify supervision and site safety leadership immediately.

· Do not independently assume final authority for complex or system-level decisions.

Minimum Requirements — Safety Tech (ST)

1. Experience (Baseline Entry Filter)

· 1–3 years of experience in construction, industrial, or facilities environments
(safety, field supervision, or skilled trade experience acceptable)

· Direct exposure to active job-site conditions (not office-only roles)

· Experience working around multiple trades and dynamic work environments preferred

2. Safety Knowledge (Practical, Not Theoretical)

· Basic understanding of common construction hazards, including:

· Fall exposure

· Electrical / stored energy awareness

· Material handling / crush hazards

· Hand and power tools

· Familiarity with:

· Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) / JHAs

· Permit systems (LOTO, confined space, hot work, etc.)

· Ability to recognize when conditions do not match the plan

3. Training & Certifications (Minimum Entry Level)

· OSHA 30 (Construction) Required

· CPR / First Aid / AED Required

· Preferred but NOT required: OSHA 510 / STS / STSC / CIT / CHST

· Fall Protection User or Competent Person (basic level)

· LOTO awareness training

· Confined Space awareness

4. Field Capability (This is the real filter)

Ability to:

· Walk active jobsites for extended periods

· Access multi-level construction environments (stairs, ladders, uneven terrain)

· Work in heat, dust, noise, and changing conditions

· Able to maintain consistent field presence across large work areas

5. Observation & Communication Skills

Ability to:

· Identify visible hazards and unsafe conditions

· Communicate clearly with workers and supervision in the field

· Ask questions when something does not look right

· Must be able to escalate issues without hesitation

6. Documentation & Basic Systems Use

Ability to:

· Complete daily logs, inspection reports, and observation reports

· Use tablets, phones, or basic software for documentation tracking

· Attention to detail — documentation must reflect actual field conditions

7. Behavioral Expectations (Critical for Role Fit)

Willingness to:

· Work in a support role, not a command role

· Follow defined escalation pathways

· Accept direction from site supervision and safety leadership

· Demonstrates:

· Reliability and consistency in field presence

· Professional interaction with craft and subcontractors

· Coachability and willingness to learn

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to talk or hear, sit, stand, bend, stoop, stretch, twist, use hands, and/or reach out for prolonged periods of time
• Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination
• Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls
• Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, and poles.
• Must be physically capable of pulling wires and cables through conduits.
• Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions
• Must be able to work around wood dust and fumes
• Maybe exposed to heights and loud noises
• Must be able to see color to discern color-coded wiring
• Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
• Must be aware of OSHA safety standards

Pay Transparency:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $30 to $45 Per Hour, based on relevant factors such as experience, skills, education, internal equity, and geographic location. Final compensation will be determined during the interview process by the hiring authority.
