Location: Santa Clara, CA. As a Software Engineer at Applied Materials, you’ll dive deep into ground-breaking technologies—like machine learning and AI—to craft novel software solutions that solve our customers’ high-value problems. Our Software Engineers are responsible for designing, prototyping, developing, and debugging software solutions for semiconductor equipment components and devices to ensure quality and functionality. You will develop software documentation and test procedures, troubleshoot software problems, and communicate with internal customers to understand project requirements. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy solving complex problems, continuously learning new technologies, and contributing to impactful products from day one. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications using modern development practices. Build responsive and efficient web applications using JavaScript and Single Page Application (SPA) frameworks. Develop backend services and APIs using Node.js and Python. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and senior engineers to deliver high-quality solutions. Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure robust and maintainable code. Continuously learn new tools, frameworks, and technologies while contributing innovative ideas to improve development processes. Demonstrate curiosity and adaptability by learning, unlearning, and adopting better engineering practices as technologies evolve. Qualifications This role is ineligible for visa sponsorship and candidates must have valid work authorization to be considered for this role. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field. Strong programming fundamentals and problem-solving skills. Hands‑on experience with JavaScript, Python, and Node.js. Familiarity with Single Page Application (SPA) frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue. Understanding of software engineering principles, data structures, and algorithms. Exposure to REST APIs, web development, or backend services is a plus.
