Deputy Enforcement Officer

Yamhill County Sheriff's Office is actively recruiting to create a pool of diverse candidates eligible for current and future regular, full-time entry-level Deputy vacancies in our Enforcement (Patrol) Division. Candidates who are not selected for full-time positions may be offered the opportunity to proceed as part-time (volunteer; unpaid) Reserve Deputy candidates. Enforcement Deputies patrol county roads and residential and business areas, as well as waterways, to enforce local and state laws, investigate traffic accidents, and investigate crimes and complaints relating to criminal law enforcement in the County. Positions require work in a 24-hour per day, 7-day a week environment with shift rotation in 8-hour, 10-hour, or 12-hour shifts depending on assignment. May be required to work with rotating shift schedules including working day, swing, and night shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required. These positions are represented through Teamsters Local 223. Incentive pay, in addition to base salary, is available for education, certification, and bilingual speakers. Assignment pay is available for detectives, corporals, full-time field training officers, and canine handlers. These positions carry an 18-month probationary period for entry-level candidates.

Successful candidates will possess good moral character, demonstrate strong customer service and communication skills, and put forth a professional image. They are skilled, highly motivated, self-directed individuals with strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, as well as skill in communicating effectively with individuals during difficult and often stressful situations.

• ORPAT scores of 6:20 or under, with a pass on the Dummy Drag; and
• NTN Frontline A scores, submitted through by 3:00 PM on June 25, 2026.

Veterans who meet the minimum qualifications for a position may be eligible for hiring preference; please follow instructions in the relevant section below for form and documentation submission. Yamhill County Sheriff's Office is an accredited On-the-job training (OJT) agency and eligible veterans may utilize their VA education benefits during the field training period.

All ENTRY-LEVEL candidates must provide ORPAT physical ability test results, dated within the previous 12 months, submitted by the closing date (06/25/2026). ORPAT scores may be submitted as follows:

• ORPAT scores taken through NTN and submitted as part of their testing; or
• ORPAT scores taken through another law enforcement agency, on testing agency letterhead, uploaded as part of their employment application.

Passing scores are 6:20 or under, with a pass on the Dummy Drag. Yamhill County will reimburse the cost of ORPAT testing for candidates hired under this recruitment. Dated receipt is required for reimbursement.

Qualified applicants - those who achieve passing NTN Frontline A test scores (at least 70% on the reading, written, and video sections are passing) and submit passing ORPAT times (6:20 or under, with a pass on the Dummy Drag), as well as meet all other stated minimum qualifications - may be invited to participate in Oral Board Panel Interviews scheduled for Thursday, July 9, 2026.
