JOB SUMMARY

Position Title: Medical Systems Advocate

Program: Domestic Violence Services

Classification: Non-Exempt/Full-Time

Location: 650 Lafayette St., Lancaster PA 17603

The Medical Systems Advocate is responsible for building and strengthening relationships between Domestic Violence Services (DVS) and medical and behavioral health providers. The goal is to improve the healthcare experiences of domestic violence survivors by ensuring they are supported and connected to appropriate resources within the healthcare system.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Partnership Development

• Establish and foster relationships with healthcare providers across targeted sectors to enhance the healthcare system’s response to domestic violence.
• Actively participate in health-related community collaborations, ensuring that domestic violence survivors' needs are represented.
• Discover or develop, modify and provide resources to and for health-related communities and healthcare providers to enhance response to domestic violence.

Community Assessment & Advocacy

• Conduct assessments to identify the needs of both healthcare providers and domestic violence survivors to inform outreach, advocacy, and service delivery efforts.
• Utilize assessment findings to guide program focus and improve the healthcare engagement of survivors.
• Provide support, assistance and coverage in direct services as needed, including hotline and text line, front desk, and on-call, weekend and holiday coverage, on a rotating schedule.

3. Training and Capacity Building

• Develop and deliver training and outreach programs for healthcare providers to raise awareness and improve the identification and response to domestic violence survivors.
• Equip DVS staff with the necessary knowledge and skills to address healthcare and behavioral health needs of survivors, facilitating referrals and resource access.
• Provide ongoing capacity-building training to DVS team members to better integrate healthcare related support into their advocacy work.
• Assist in training interns, volunteers and new team members as applicable by developing and facilitating training.

4. Community Outreach and Engagement

• Collaborate with healthcare providers to establish a robust referral process that connects domestic violence survivors to necessary healthcare services, including physical and behavioral health support.
• Work with providers to develop and streamline the bidirectional referral process between healthcare organizations and DVS to ensure survivors receive comprehensive care and access to available resources.
• Participate in health-related community outreach events, ensuring that DVS’s services and referral pathways are well-integrated with local healthcare systems.
• Coordinate outreach efforts that connect survivors with healthcare services, such as health screenings, vaccinations, and informational sessions on healthcare access, to improve overall survivor's well-being.

5. Reporting and Compliance

• Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, participant numbers, and program outcomes.
• Compile and submit monthly reports on educational efforts and partnerships to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
• Complete 10 hours of continuing education in domestic violence, victim services, or related fields annually, as required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.
• 2-4 years of experience in training, outreach and education within the healthcare sector preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
