Position Overview

The Commercial HVAC Install Field Lead is a senior leadership role within the WMS HVAC Division. This position is responsible for directing commercial sheet metal installation, equipment setting, production sequencing, and crew leadership on assigned projects. This role operates as approximately 70% leadership and coordination and 30% hands-on field support. As WMS expands, this position is designed to transition into a primarily oversight-based role.

Primary Responsibilities

• Review mechanical plans, specifications, and equipment schedules prior to mobilization.

• Perform and verify duct and equipment takeoffs.

• Develop installation sequencing and daily production plans.

• Lead sheet metal and install crews on commercial projects.

• Track labor hours against estimate and protect labor budgets.

• Coordinate crane picks, equipment staging, and major deliveries.

• Ensure systems are ready for technician startup and commissioning.

Material & Production Control

• Order and track materials accurately.

• Anticipate long-lead items.

• Prevent excessive waste and emergency reorders.

• Maintain organized staging and laydown areas.

• Ensure crews are properly tooled for scope.

Leadership Expectations

• Maintain authority and professionalism on commercial jobsites.

• Mentor apprentices and junior installers.

• Coordinate with PM, GCs, inspectors, and other trades.

• Enforce OSHA compliance and WMS safety standards.

Performance Metrics (KPIs)

• Project labor variance (estimated vs actual hours).

• Install schedule adherence.

• Inspection pass rate.

• Install-related rework or startup deficiencies.

• Material accuracy.

• Crew productivity and PM feedback.

Requirements

• Oregon Sheet Metal or HVAC Journeyman License.

• 7+ years commercial HVAC install experience.

• Strong mechanical print reading ability.

• Proven leadership experience on commercial projects.

• OSHA 10 or 30 preferred.
