A premier luxury resort in Austin, TX , is seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Engineering to join its senior operations team. This is a confidential search; the property’s name and ownership details will be shared directly with qualified candidates during the interview process.

The resort is a large, full-service destination property with extensive guest accommodations, meeting facilities, complex mechanical systems, and year-round operations. This role is ideal for an engineering leader who combines strong technical expertise with excellent administrative, communication, and team-development skills.

Position Overview

The Assistant Director of Engineering will support the Director of Engineering in overseeing the property’s engineering, maintenance, and facilities operations. The successful candidate will be comfortable balancing strategic planning and administration with hands-on troubleshooting in a demanding hospitality environment.

The position is approximately 65% administrative and leadership-focused , with the remaining time devoted to operational support, troubleshooting, and responding to urgent property needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in leading a large engineering and maintenance team, currently consisting of approximately 27 employees, with anticipated growth.
• Support the daily operation, maintenance, and repair of:
• HVAC systems
• Plumbing and electrical systems
• Steam and hydronic hot-water systems
• Building infrastructure and guest-room systems
• Resort utilities and related facilities
• Coordinate preventative maintenance programs and operational priorities.
• Respond quickly and effectively to issues involving leaks, hot water, HVAC outages, mechanical failures, and other time-sensitive concerns.
• Partner with department leaders to resolve guest-impacting issues and maintain exceptional service standards.
• Communicate clearly through email, meetings, work orders, reports, and cross-functional coordination.
• Coach, develop, and teach engineering team members.
• Support scheduling, staffing, purchasing, budgeting, vendor coordination, and documentation.
• Monitor guest feedback and service metrics, ensuring timely follow-up on engineering-related concerns.
• Help maintain luxury hospitality standards throughout the property.
• Participate in leadership coverage for a 24/7/365 operation, including weekends and holidays as needed.
• Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and Director of Engineering on long-term maintenance and capital priorities.

Qualifications

• Previous leadership experience in luxury hotel or resort complex facilities operations.
• Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, steam, and hydronic systems.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Strong administrative and organizational skills, including written communication and follow-through.
• Experience leading, coaching, and developing a sizeable technical team.
• Ability to communicate professionally with guests, executives, department leaders, vendors, and colleagues.
• Experience in a luxury hotel or resort environment strongly preferred.
• Background with respected luxury or full-service hospitality brands is highly desirable.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume, operationally complex environment.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record preferred.
• Successful completion of applicable background screening and other pre-employment requirements.

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary of up to $100,000 , depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

This is a full-time leadership position supporting a 24/7/365 resort operation . Flexibility to work varied schedules, weekends, holidays, and provide management coverage when needed is required.
