Job Title: Quality Inspector Job Description

The Quality Inspector performs detailed first article, in-process, and final inspections of medical plastic injection molded parts using a variety of precision measurement tools and metrology equipment. This role ensures that all components meet strict quality standards, comply with ISO requirements, and align with engineering drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) specifications. The position involves working with advanced inspection technologies in a modern, growing manufacturing environment and offers training opportunities on state-of-the-art equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform first article inspections on medical plastic parts to verify conformance to specifications before production runs.
• Conduct in-process inspections on plastic injection molded parts to ensure ongoing compliance with quality and dimensional requirements.
• Complete final inspections of finished parts, documenting results and ensuring products meet all quality and regulatory standards.
• Use hand inspection tools such as micrometers and other precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Interpret and read blueprints and engineering drawings, including GD&T, to understand dimensional and geometric requirements.
• Utilize coordinate measuring machines (CMM), vision measurement machines (VMM), and other metrology equipment on a daily basis to perform detailed inspections.
• Operate and learn advanced inspection systems, including Zeiss equipment and Calypso software, with training provided as needed.
• Perform visual and microscope inspection to identify defects, surface issues, or nonconformances in plastic components.
• Apply ISO-based quality practices and procedures to all inspection activities, ensuring consistent documentation and traceability.
• Collaborate with production and quality teams to communicate inspection findings and support corrective actions when nonconformances are identified.
• Maintain accurate inspection records and reports to support quality assurance and continuous improvement efforts.
• Work effectively with minimal supervision on the assigned shift, demonstrating strong self-management and leadership capabilities.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of inspection experience, preferably in the medical industry and with a vision inspection machine such as a CMM, or equivalent manufacturing experience.
• Hands-on experience with first article inspection and in-process inspection of manufactured components.
• Proficiency with hand inspection tools, including micrometers and other precision measuring instruments.
• Ability to perform visual and microscope inspection to detect defects and quality issues.
• Experience working with CMM and VMM or similar metrology and vision inspection equipment.
• Familiarity with ISO-based quality systems and procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings, including GD&T requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in measurement and documentation.
• Willingness and ability to learn new equipment and software, including Zeiss and Calypso, with training provided.
• Capability to work with limited supervision and demonstrate sound judgment on an assigned shift.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Inspection experience specifically within the medical device or medical plastics industry.
• Previous experience using advanced metrology equipment in a manufacturing environment.
• Exposure to structured quality control and quality assurance practices.
• Openness to learning new inspection technologies, tools, and processes even if direct experience with all listed tools is not present.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and report inspection findings.
• Demonstrated reliability and consistency in following established procedures and quality standards.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean, modern manufacturing facility with well-defined and tightly controlled processes. The company operates in brand-new and newly renovated buildings, featuring up-to-date equipment, including advanced metrology tools such as CMMs, VMMs, and Zeiss systems with Calypso software. The environment emphasizes a professional, contemporary, and technology-focused look and feel. The facility has expanded from approximately 30,000 square feet to more than 80,000 square feet, reflecting substantial growth and increased capacity. The position is on a second shift (approximately 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.) with a shift differential and involves working with relatively little direct supervision, so employees are expected to be self-directed and demonstrate strong leadership and ownership of their work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Circle Pines, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
