Sr Engineer - Protection & Controls Engineering - BALTIMORE

Salary: $103,200 - 141,900 per year Requirements:

• We require a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a licensed Professional Engineer credential.
• We need at least 7 years of professional engineering experience, or 6+ years with a masters degree or PE license.
• We expect the ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
• We look for strong knowledge of engineering design principles, practices, standards, codes, and methods.
• We require the ability to apply problem-solving approaches and advanced engineering theory to complex issues.
• We need experience with specialized electrical engineering work, including protection and control systems, substation or transmission projects, and related settings.
• We value prior experience developing, reviewing, and applying engineering studies, specifications, calculations, design documents, and performance assessments.
• We prefer familiarity with industry software tools such as CYMDIST, PSS/E, Python, PSCAD, MATLAB, MATHCAD, Aspen OneLiner, Aspen Relay Database, SEL-5030, and SEL RTAC.
• We prefer strong written and verbal communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to work effectively with all levels of management.
• We prefer experience with PJM interconnection processes and utility standards.
• A graduate degree, graduate-level engineering work, business administration study, or project management certification is preferred.
• A state-issued Professional Engineer license is preferred.
• We also value a history of related technical role progression, leadership on industry committees, or equivalent professional distinction.

• We lead and support protection and control engineering efforts for substation rebuilds, asset replacements, and digital smart substation initiatives.
• We manage complex, fast-moving engineering projects that impact grid reliability, system capacity, and overall performance.
• We develop and guide studies, plans, criteria, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and cost estimates for electric facilities and systems.
• We provide technical consulting and recommendations to internal teams and customers regarding company-owned or customer-owned systems, equipment, and facilities.
• We review project financial data, including budgeted and actual costs, and provide input on budget planning.
• We contribute technical expertise to strategic, legislative, and operational decisions.
• We help create, update, and apply internal and industry standards and emerging technologies within our specialty area.
• We lead engineering tasks that may include field testing, troubleshooting, and peer review.
• We develop and implement projects with significant financial and operational impact, including initial commissioning plans when needed.
• We participate in department planning, site walkdowns, meetings, and conference calls to support committed results.
• We may lead multidisciplinary teams and oversee contractors independently.
• We serve as subject-matter experts, provide expert opinions, and may act as expert witnesses.
• We recommend performance and cost improvements and support implementation of action plans.
• We provide technical training, mentorship, peer review, and guidance to others.
• We participate in technical and industry organizations to stay current on new technologies and inform business decisions.
• We may work extended hours during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.
