Physical Therapist Job Responsibilities: Evaluate and treat patients as prescribed by referring physician. Record treatment, response, progress, and discharge information in patient chart or enter information into computer. Educate patient, family, and significant others regarding condition, treatment, and home program. Routinely confer with physician and other practitioners in person, by phone, or in writing regarding progress, regression, or change of plan. Orient, instruct, and direct assistants, aides, and students. Maintain professional growth by attending department meetings, in‑service, and educational conferences. Includes participation in hospital orientation and departmental and community in‑service education and programs as directed. Assist with planning and implementation of new programs. Physical Therapist Education and Experience Requirements: BS, MS, or DPT degree from an accredited program in Physical Therapy required. Licensure by the state of Connecticut required. Current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent within 3 months of hire required. Minimum of one‑year clinical experience preferred. Physical Therapist Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to review physician’s referral, patient’s condition, and medical records to determine physical therapy treatment required. Demonstrate skills to perform tests and measure patients’ strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency. Plan and prepare written treatment program based on evaluation of patient data with realistic, objective, long- and short-term goals and time frames. Record treatment, response, progress, and discharge information in patient chart or enter information into computer in measurable and objective terms as dictated by department policy. Knowledge to administer individualized programs of physical therapy as determined by physicians’ orders and initial evaluation, including therapeutic exercise, moist heat, traction, manual therapy, cold, gait training, hydrotherapy, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation.
