Property & Casualty Claims Specialist 2

Job Description Property & Casualty Claims Specialist 2 (260004LL) Responsibilities Under the direction of the Property & Casualty Claims Supervisor & Risk Administrator, the Property & Casualty Claims Specialist 2 investigates, adjusts, and settles catastrophic and non‑catastrophic claims, including property damage, bodily injury, subrogation, judicial liability, personal injury, catastrophic property, crime & bonding, and public entity liability, in accordance with regulations, guidelines, and agency policy. Manages litigation Processes claim documents in a timely and accurate manner Analyzes data and uses sound judgment to establish case reserves Evaluates claims, negotiates monetary settlements, and identifies potential defense strategies Performs ongoing review of liability insurance law and revisions Provides guidance, direction, and training to lower‑level claims specialists Makes recommendations to Claims Manager & Risk Administrator on training and new procedures that impact the unit Obtains information from agency personnel and claimants via telephone, written form, or in person: Answers inquiries from claimants and attorneys concerning claim processes, lost wages, body shops, and insurance companies for policy and claim related information Authorizes vehicle rentals Assigns independent adjusters and salvage companies Recovers monies for losses to state‑owned equipment and real estate for damage sustained in not‑at‑fault incidents Maintains accurate and complete claim files: Ensures all pertinent information is in file for future audits Updates claim information electronically Prepares reports concerning various activitiesAttends meetings Performs other duties as required Qualifications Minimum qualifications: 48 months experience in processing insurance claims, including 12 months in catastrophic property & casualty claims Or completion of undergraduate core coursework in business, public administration, or a related field; 24 months experience processing property, liability & subrogation claims, which includes 12 months in catastrophic property & casualty claims Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above Job Skills: Claims Examination Knowledge of: Insurance claims processing Liability & subrogation laws, rules, policies, and procedures Insurance codes & regulations Public relations Claims insurance investigation Customer service techniques Skill in: Operation of personal computer and related hardware/software (e.g., MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) Ability to: Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions Gather, collate, and classify information about data, people, or things Handle sensitive and sometimes hostile inquiries and contact with officials and the public Negotiate fair and reasonable settlement of claims Complete routine forms Maintain accurate records Benefits Medical Coverage Free Dental, Vision and Basic Life Insurance premiums after completion of eligibility period Paid time off, including vacation, personal, sick leave and 11 paid holidays per year Childbirth, Adoption, and Foster Care leave Education and Development Opportunities (Employee Development Funds, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and more) Public Retirement Systems (such as OPERS, STRS, SERS, and HPRS) & Optional Deferred Compensation (Ohio Deferred Compensation) ADA Statement Ohio is a Disability Inclusion State and strives to be a model employer of individuals with disabilities.
